Replacement seats

When I got my 90 the DS seat was toast--peeled the upholstery off and there wasn't much to try and weld up.

Bought one of these: http://www.procarbyscat.com/Products_Pro90.asp and a Wedge engineering seat pedestal. Great seat, very comfortable. Only problem was I'm 6'4" and the seat/slider/pedestal assembly made me about 3"~4" too tall to drive! I left it in there about three months and drove in a semi-reclining position--I was used to it as that is how I had to drive the Wife's 89 Tercel--finally found a pair of seats in excellent condition out of a 4-dr XJ and got the pair for $50.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the seat/slider/pedestal assembly?

I have been looking at the Corbeau Moab seats with their XJ complete slider/bracket sets.... Not as cheap as $170 a piece, but at least I know they will look good, feel good and be worth the money...

Guys I searched but maybe i didnt use the right words. I am looking at buying aftermarket seats for my 2000 classic. Any suggestions? I really dont want to spend a bunch of money but I want something of quality... so i will spend if necessary. Everywhere i have priced around here wants 1200 or more to reupholster my seats (which includes the back but still expensive in my eyes). Anyone have any seat suggestions?

Thanks you for your time,
Smiley
wow i had no idea it cost that much to re-upholster the seats i had mine done by a guy who owes me a favour.. the passenger seat was done a couple of weeks a go im still waiting on the driver seat.. it should be done next week i guess i shouldnt rush him.. he charged me 50 bucks for materials... marine grade vinyll and im not sure what the camo is but its tough... they used to be the tan leather from a 95 xj

does anyone know the size of the bolt holes on the mounting brackets that are in the OEM seats?

**does that make sense*** if not sorry

I put JC Whitney "racing seats" in my MJ a couple years ago when they offered them for a buy one get one free deal... I didn't expect much as the price was a steal, but my bench was shot and I figured I woulkd upgrade later to a suspention seat like I have in mt TJ.

Turns out the seat is pretty good!! I have had them in now for three years and they ARE comfortable. I have taken a couple long 600mile trips with no stiffness upon arrivial.

I made the bases myself. They are a tad lo for me, but have worked fine so far.

I have also heard that its almost a crapshoot when it comes to buying seats like that. Some guy even showed me a pic of corbeau seats that bent in half on him when he was getting in. I realize that all you jeep guys fab up brackets and put in nice VW seats a stuff like that but I dont have access to nice equipment. So again does anyone have any experience with aftermarket seats.

If you're worried about fabbing, the ONLY seats you should be looking at are ones that offer bolt-in brackets specifically for your year Cherokee.

Corbeau does. I have experience with Corbeau A4's on Corbeau brackets in my old Mustang. Loved the seats, would buy them again.
A few of the other higher end seat manufacturers might.

Those ebay cheapos won't. You'll be fabbing brackets for them.

I don't have fab tools either, so I paid a local guy some cash to fab adapters to put Grand Cherokee seats in my 94 XJ.

thanks longshot you and the rest of you guys have been a lot of help. Does anyone know the bolt pattern on the xj off the top of their head?

Not sure what you mean by bolt pattern. There are 4 that bolt the slider to the jeep and 4 that bolt slider to the seat.

Slider to jeep front two are through a vertical mount in slider and are 13mm. Rear one is same bolt as front into floor. Other is a stud that comes up from floor through slider and has a 17mm (I think thats right, its awfully close to 11/16 but metric) nut.

Slider to seat all four are studs off the slider itself, mount through holes in seat frame and use 13mm nuts.

The slider itself is 3 pieces. The two side rails and the handle in front you grab to slide it when installed. Its very easy to see how this goes back together once you install rails onto a WJ seat (just don't adjust the rails while it is uninstalled ... ask me how I know LOL).

It will literally take you 10 min to pull the passenger seat from your jeep so you can flip it over and get a look at all of this. I found it easiest to slide it all the way forward and remove rear bolt/nut. Then slide it all way back to remove front bolts.

However, I have the stock seats I replaced sitting in storage and can snap a couple pics of bottom and measure distance mount to mount on my way home tomorrow night if you'd like.

what year is your XJ?

Yes, it matters.

Go join the Pirate4x4 forum. There are tons of Corbeau dealers that can offer amazing deals on their suspension seats and brackets to fit an XJ. I've gotten quotes of less than $700 for seats, brackets and shipping.

This seems like a good place to ask.

Does anyone know if WJ seats ever came in tan leather?

I want to replace the seats in my Briarwood with something nice, and my entire interior is tan, so I'm not interested in putting two black/gray seats in the front.

Does Beard make any nice seats other than their nice racing seats?

This is a daily driver that is staying as close to stock as possible, and is seeing absolutely zero time offroad.

I'm looking for the same thing. I have a street only XJ and I'd like to find the most comfortable seats I can. I'm actually considering looking at Cadillac seats.

My XJ has Subaru Impreza WRX STI seats in it. They are super comfortable. I have just recently purchased this XJ from another NAXJA member, he did all of the mods to it so far. He also put the steeing wheel in it from the Subaru as well.
Here is a pic..

Yes they did. Ebay "Jeep Leather seats" and you'll see examples..

I got something very similar from JC whitney, all black. Not sure if they are exactly the same. I paid $170 for a pair. (buy one get one free)

They are comfy
Seem sturdy
do NOT have a lever to lean forward or back so I doubt they'd work for a 2door. You have to crank on a knob to get the back to lean forward and back.
Mounting was difficult. I had to build my own frame to mount them on. Basically I used 1/8" thick angle iron and welded a "Cube" then drilled bolt holes in it top and bottom. Ran bolts through the floor and put 2 more pieces of angle iron under the floor that ran to the cross members.

I think one important thing to remember when you are installing seats is that the seats don't protect you in a crash. The seatbelt does. So don't go overboard like some people do.

seat belts dont help if when you are rear ended the seat breaks loose and flips backwards.
