Gun Control Poll

I refuse to own those ugly ass boots, and I do not have ANY ABU's either. Don't plan on getting any. I have two sets of BDU (with patches) for the unlikely event that I have to wear something other than my flight suit. And I wear black flight boots.

/I love wearing pajamas to work

x2, I almost wanna deploy again so I can wear PJs and fly again too :D

The SeaBees and brown water sailors were the only ones who wore utils/camo/, usually they wore whatever the USMC was currently sporting.
Fixed it for ya!

Edit: It was fun being an E-4 on Japan back when we had chrome collar devices. Sunny days used to make the crow and single chevron look like a Colonel's bird to the Marines. All of our PO3s (E4) used to get nice sharp salutes, even though we were WAY to young to be a Colonel (like 19-20 years old).

Believe you are talking about TACP/JTAC - Joint Terminal Attack Controllers - guys who call in airstrikes, ya?

They do go thru a lot of training, and it is all covered by the AF. Believe they go to a lot of your Army schools (like Airborne). It takes them almost 4 years to become "fully qualified". As for equipment, I know the AF covers damn near anything they want - since they're in the same category as PJs and Combat Controllers and considered Spec Ops. I know PJs and CCs get anything they want, especially now that our Chief of Staff was Spec Ops earlier in his career :D

I believe SF units in the Army operate the same way - I know when I was embedded with 7th SFG in Afghanistan, all we had to do was ask for something and we had it within 2-4 weeks. Seemed like we had an unlimited budget.

Yeah, the bomb droppers. Those guys have some sick stuff. One guy just used a plate carrier instead of a full on kevlar vest. So much smarter, I wis the Army would remember that kevlar by itself will not stop a 7.62mm, on the plate will. Why carry all the extra weight? Instead we get issued the new IOTV and this thing is just ridiculous. You have to attach your pouches directly to them, I reall really hate doing that. Plate carriers would be so much more practical for Afghanistan.

Yeah, the SOF guys I worked with in AFG gave us plate carriers too. I don't understand why the "regular Army" and "regular Air Force" don't take notes from how the SOF guys operate....

Because Snake Eaters aren't trusted by the black-shoe Army/Air Force?

Besides, it would cut into the profits that the companies make.

OK - that too. But how likely do you think it is that I give a damn about corporate profits over the lives of my brothers in arms? Bringing soldiers back home is a bigger profit than money, y'ask me.

It has a lot to do with budgets. Regular Army/AF are stuck buying what is in the system, where the SF guys can pretty much buy whatever they want, as long as they don't run out of money.

The only time I remember the Army Brass saying anything about what they bought was during the big debate about the M4. The regular army are using the M4 built by Colt, while the SF guys where using the H&K model. Haven't heard much about it lately but the SF had to give up their H&Ks from what I read.

Yeah, I remember hearing that too - really sucks for the SF guys. Although, I'm not sure I believe the whole "in the system" thing - because it seems about every 3-4 years, we get some sort of massive uniform/equipment change (whether it's our dress blues, PT uniform, or utilities, or NBC gear, or helmets or.....the list goes on) and everyone has to go out and buy all new shit - but of course, none of it is available because it is new. Takes 3 years to get it mass produced, and by then, they're talking about changing it again.

That's the issue now with our PT uniform. Again, we could have just taken the Army PT uniform, changed colors, and been set, but nooooo....AF had to go and design the worst workout gear possible...

What you just described is the classic example of 'PORK'.....

Our unit did order plate carriers...SIX FRIGGIN MONTHS AGO! Our commander really hates the new vest. It's better suited for riot control than fighting a light and mobile insurgency in the mountains of Afghanistan. I did hear a rumor recently that our order finally got authorized the plate carriers but not in the numbers we requested. We'll see.

Yeah, and the Army is moving to a new dress uniform, but if you put all your medals on it you come out of it looking like a 3rd world dictator. I'm so glad I'm getting out before I have to get it.

EDIT: Seriously, check out the class B version of the uniform. It looks like you should be overseeing genocide or something:

Ah yes, the blousing of the dress pants....always loved that look :D

I love my Marine Corps uniforms...Had the same cammies for 20-30 yrs, dress blues haven't changed as long as I can recall. :D

Yep, even now, their new cammies are the best of the bunch....

Good to see the CG uniform board is not the only board to screw things up.

I work at a joint command when the newest USN enlisted Khaki came out I thought we were hosting a 3rd world Central American officers conference.

I don't think I have seen an army guy wearing anything other than fatigues or PT gear in a long time. They never wear a service uniform anymore it seems.

Side note- for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Air FOrce Nav school in Pensacola, the Honor Guard was wearing ABU's with Ascotts and white gloves, WTF?

Its got a lot to do with us being at war. From what I've been briefed and how the regs have changed, they want us to wear our ACUs as much as possible when we are away from the base, on official business. I guess its to try and remind people we are still at war.

We mainly wear them for promotion boards and DA photos. Too busy training to worry about the nit picky stuff like that.

That is true, but I was talking to a recruiter about it about a year ago and he said the Army want's to put forward a more "relaxed" appearance. Whatever in the hell that means. I'm not complaining though, I joined the Army while we were at war and that's all I've known. I'm not a "dress-up" kind of guy either.
