Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

If you find out, would you let the rest of us know?

You may try PMing Crash. He checks in every once in a while lately (so don't be surprised if he takes a while to answer...) but he's the only one I've known personally to own a Renault-powered XJ...

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

Try asking Al and Philip at their Nissan Diesel web site.

http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/

They were a big help to me fixing my Nissan diesel transplant that is in my 85 jeep. They have forgoten more about diesels that most experts ever knew.

I thought I had blown engine or blown fuel injector pump or both, and it turned out to be a $25 leather diaphram in the fuel injection pump governor. Took me 3 months to find these guys, and 30 minutes to fix my diesel!

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

if you can't find it anywhere else, Renault has the part number in there microfitch. If you can bribe someone to look and they can still find a functional microfitch machine. Renault has a bunch of odds and ends on microfitch from the beginning of the XJ till about 88 or so..
Fuel return line shouldn't be that hard to fabricate. I sometimes have truck repair shops fab up stuff like that. They are often cheaper than OEM. They are used to working on various models and making do. And often have a large collection of various fittings and a crimping machine.

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

For engine parts:
www.winnebagoparts.com The engine is the same for the diesel LeSharo with some exceptions (turbo, exhaust manifold, oilpan?, some hoses, clutch, flywheel?, some pulleys, some brackets, etc.). It is a rebuild facility for that engine so they are an excellent technical reference. I had them email me a drawing to make sure that what hoses I bought were correct for the Jeep.

Clutch pilot bearing (special):
dealership (don't go anywhere else you will probably end up with the wrong bearing)

Transmission:
Zumbrota Bearing and Gear

Turbo (Garrett T2):
Ebay or a turbo facility

Other: www.Rockauto.com ; NAPA; Ebay

If anyone has a good European source that I could mailorder from I would like to get one.

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

There is a place in Iowa of all places that specializes in the Lesharo motor homes. They have a TON of parts in stock, and they were VERY helpful on the phone when I was looking at a 2.1TD cherokee

If anyone ever finds a good European source, please tell me.

Despite it being built/sold here, documentation and parts service for the Renault engined XJ is almost nonexistant.

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

Hello Steve,

I think the Renault diesel engine is the same used in other Renault cars and vans. I think it is in what is called the Douvrin engine family.
Look here for a list of vehicles:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douvrin_engine#2.1_Diesel

Maybe parts for one of the more common Renault vehicles would be easier to find in France.

At one point in time, probably 2 years ago I posted a list of parts that NAPA can order that are supposed to fit the diesel XJ. The list probably needs to be updated.

Re: renault diesel 2.1 parts

I think these vehicles were much more common in Canada than in the US. To have a good mail order source there would be excellent. Anyone out there know of one? What are the parts supply chains (their Pep Boys) up there?

The best place for engine parts is Mobility RV in Iowa www.winnebagoparts.com. I bought sleeves, pistons, rings, crankshaft, rods, gaskets. They sell used parts as well. They are a little pricey but an excellent source.

It is, sort of.

The block, head and internal parts are the same, but a lot of the ancillaries were modified for the XJ installation. Starter motors, in particular, are rather difficult to obtain.

Other parts, if unique to the diesel or 2.5 carb engine are also difficult to find in Europe, for example, I've had a fuel tank on order for over two months now, it's finally arrived at the shop, but I haven't got my hands on it yet.

The XJ was sold in France from the first year of production, but there is little to no support for vehicles built before 1993, when the XJ was commercialised throughout Europe.

Most parts have to come from the US.

If you need engine internals, I can probably help, as Renault Espaces, Traffics, 21s and 25s are fairly common in breakers yards, but for other parts, you're probably better off sourcing them in the US, particularly given the current exchange rates.

I'm now trying to get my XJ on the road ASAP, as I totalled my Renault 5 (LeCar) yesterday morning:

Double rollover, followed by standing on it's nose and falling over onto it's roof... at 30MPH.

Black ice is nasty stuff, but the person who cut a foot-deep trench at a right angle to the road is the real culprit. Dropped a front wheel into that and it flipped the vehicle. Hence the rollover with little damage to the lower bodywork. Car is still drivable, but it's finished.

So project XJ has gained a new priority... and the first modification on the list is now a rollcage.

I was lucky to survive the crash, never mind walk away with only a few scratches.
