We got a couple there when I did my tranny cooler.

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

this thread makes me all kinds of happy. Gonna have to get those fittings next time I work on the tranny lines... I hate quickdisconnects with a passion.

If you can find a 9/16-17 threaded pipe fitting anywhere, it is really really damn close to m14x1.5. Note that I don't think such a thing exists, I just ran the calculations to convert to SAE

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

Glad someone else could use this info too. I hate the quick disconnects as well Ken, Just more parts to break/tweak beyond reuse. Good luck on the 9/16ths pipe thread, I don't know that I've ever seen that one, haha.

Thanks for the link, that should work just as well but it drops to 1/8th pipe, I don't want to restrict the lines that much.

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

Thanks for looking it up at $12.65 apiece though that's a dollar more than the Earl's fitting.

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

I can check prices through the prolink system at home, that's shop price. I manage a NAPA store retail price on that fitting is over 20 bucks. Weatherhead fittings are ridiculous in price, I'm assuming because they're made from solid brass.

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

I was looking into all this after reading the JP article as well - found all this stuff is big $$$. I think you have the right idea on the barbed fittings. Do you have the hook up on the hose to use? Anyway I found this place on-line, you probably know them as there close

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

I do know the store, the old guy that used to run it is a ... not so nice person, lol. For a very long time that was the only local place to get AN fittings, so if you needed it fast you went over there to get bent over by him. All my buddys build street race cars so we spent a lot of time over there getting taken to the cleaners by old man Earl. That is the original Earl's fittings store, the whole AN craze started there when he started selling AN fittings to racers in the 50's because of the superior seal you get with them.

Just a little history lesson Some motor sports company owns it now but i havent been in there in years.

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

Did you have to order the fittings, and if not did he have any more of them in stock?

Re: Barbed fittings for transmission cooler lines?

he had 4 for me no problem, and judging from his stock, im sure he has plenty!

he was asking me about using crush washers instead of o-rings, but i ended up with the viton o-rings.
