I have used mine all through Big Bear and the like with out an external antenna, near lost signal.
I have the gps mounted next to the radio with velcro. The velcro keeps peeling off the dash board though.

So are we specifically talking about a handheld GPS, right? Because I'm leaning towards a Baja 540 from Lowrance for an in-vehicle system. Large screen and great reviews...
But my second option was that 60CSx because I think I'd like the portability for hiking too.

I have used the 60Csx more often for on road use than trail walking...
I think it has more flexibility in use.
Large screen would be nice, but I dont "NEED" it... I can only have Gps device... but
I can now hook up my gps to my lap top (15" screen) and have a live gps connection. (www.macgpspro.com)
