Tune Up Basics '00 XJ

no wires on a 2000...no cap, no rotor, just plugs. That's it for a basic tune up.

Now if you want to do your Jeep a favor, change the oil and filter, air filter, lube the steering linkage, ball joints, driveshaft, change all wiper blades, drain and refill Transfercase fluid, drain and refill tranny if automatic, check axle fluid levels, check air pressure of all 5 of your tires, inspect brakelines, cylinders, pads, rotors, drums, shoes, adjust rear brakes if drum type, lube all door, hatch, and hood hinges/cables, inspect all u-joints, inspect exhaust sytem, rotate tires, wash and wax jeep, and then polish the flux capacitor brackets.

probably forgot a lot of stuff, but somebody will spot it...

No distributor or plug wires on a 2000 or 2001. All you need is plugs. Don't waste money on SplitFire or Platinum type premium plugs, just get the plugs called for on the white info tag under the hood on the firewall. Champion plugs work well.

The spark rail is held down by several bolts, loosen them and there is enough room to wiggle the spark rail to one side and gain access to the spark plugs. No need to disconnect the spark rail. Make double sure all the plug boots are fully engaged before you re-seat the spark rail on your fresh plugs. Start the motor and check for misfires from plug boots not fully seated. Replace the spark rail bolts.

People think anyone can change plugs. But not everyone can do it correctly.
1. Loosen the plug a turn or two.
2. Use an air compressor and blow the crap out around the spark plug so it wont fall in the cylinder or get pinched against the plug seat when you put the new plug in. Poor contact between the plug and head can cause the plug to run hot.
3. Use antisieze on the threads.
4.Torque the plug.

Have fun trying to take the connector off the coil pack.

thanks.

what do you guys think about draining and refilling diffs?
my girlfriend said when she got an oil change at one of the 10min places they said she had some metal shavings in front diff.
also if you dont use the transfer case much (daily driver) should you still drain n refill? at what mileage?

Yes to the transfer case. Its still spinning everything in it, even when in 2 wd. Female= prime opportunity to take advantage of.

lol, yeah, i wanna know how they looked in the fill hole and saw metal shavings in there :) :) :)

perfect instructions, however no need to disconnect the coil pack, and x2 on checking to makes sure your boots are seated. A wobble extention bar made the job a little easier on the 2 plugs nearest the firewall.
