Kevlar Clutch ***Update #3***

Well I finished the install today(started yesterday after work)I can say it went together just like a regular clutch install,no problems at all.I did a side by side comparasion to be sure they were at the same installed hieght and that the flywheel was the same for the crank sensor 'ring".All was good to go.I installed new flywheel to crank bolts and new pressure plate to flywheel bolts, torqued to specs with medium strength lock-tite.I finnaly got to finish drilling the holes for the T N T long arm frame rail braces :dunce: with out the trans in the way!! I installed a new slave cylinder as well( NV3550) trans.Oh by the way if you are using the NV3550 trans-DO NOT USE ROYAL PURPLE SYNCROMESH fluid for this trans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to replace 5th gear needle bearing in it 1 1/2 year ago and I used ultra grey sillicone, along with royal purple fluid, to seal the case halfs and it developed a leak when i moved from FL to NC when it got cold so re-sealing it was inorder when I did the clutch. The silly cone was all mushy from royal purple fluid!!!!!!!!!!!! I now am using Mobil 1 5w20 synthetic oil for the trans-it shifts beautiful.Well anyways the clutch pedal felt really smooth and was actually easier than the luk clutch I had in there(stock replacement).the kit used a high clamp pressure plate-doesnt feel like it - I have experienced the for metioned slippage allready.Only when I was cruising and gave it my usual 1/3 throttle jump and it slipped for about 100 - 200 rpm for a split second so i imediately let of as i was told to do so.I have some pics of the install and comparision but the cam is at work still and need to add to photobucket.I can really say the trans shifts exceptionally well with the mobil 1 in there.I will be adding to this thread as new info I have learned plus I will have phottos up soon for ya to see .Sorry none at the moment- The manager didnt want to wait to much longer for me to close!!!!! I actually tightend my t n t side supports and transfer case linkage outside:eek: of the shop after he locked up.
With a final note I can say this clutch fit like a direct stock replacemnet, feels buttery smooth and doesn not have a quick engagement or any chatter as someone might have expected out of a kevlar unit-actually the kevlar disc itself has surface like a "fuzzy' poster.

The NV3550 wants some funky synthetic fluid you get from MOPAR - once I can get a line open with NVG/Magna Drivetrain, I plan to ask them what equivalents are out there...

A related note - as you post updates, would you post them all in the same thread? As an example - I subscribed to the original thread, and having all the updates and discussion in there would make it easier to keep track of what's going on.

Here's your original thread - so you can keep all your information in the same place (and it helps to maintain trains of thought as well...)

Will do 5-90.As for the nv fluid i checked on the net and actually found out that they use a light 20 wieght oil.I investigated it before.i looked into it on the rubicon owners forum and on yahoo, google and discovered that info.pennzoil makes a fluid designed for mopar and gm trans-both NV Gear. When I worked at the chevy dealer in FL the Dynojet tunner told me that most of the corvette and cammaro guys swithched to mobil 1 oil in there trans as well -NV gear units. And they loved it compared to stock-$$$$ stuff made by a nother company anyways as GM and Daimler-Crysler dont make fluids.Just labels!!! :dunno: Plus now my engine, trans and transfer case all use the same fluid-well except for the change to 5w20 for my transmission,Yes I run mobil 1 5w30 in my transfer case instead of ATF. looked on the net some where and a company -cant remember- some transfer case specialist recomended using 5 w 30 in there unit that they supplied to the individual. It shifts really great and no noises from the np231 in there.I investigated that as well too.

Makes some small sense (on the tcase,) since it is spec'd for Dexron, and most automatic transmission fluids have a 10 viscosity base oil (so is most hydraulic fluid, but the lubricating properties suck. It's not really formulated for enhanced lubrication - just for power transmission. There aren't any friction modifiers, just detergents and anti-foam/anti-cavitation additives.)

How long have you been running the Mobil? And is it just the synthetic 5W-30 engine oil? It would be nice for there to be an alternative or two (and I wouldn't use Pennzoil in a two-stroke leaf blower...)

when it got colder here in nc in january-thats when I developed the trans leak, with the royal purple stuff in there.I drained it(what was left) and put in the mobil one 5w30 in there around the first of january or so.It actually shifted better when it was cold with the 5w30 in there and the royal purple stuff was like water,I had it in there before inFL and it worked great-the mobil one that is I only used the royal purple cause I had some left over and changed it.I tryed royal purple for a bit it was ok and then tryed the mobil one to experiement-I prefer the mobil one-The NV3550 shifts way better with it in there now-not as notchy when you shift gears.I am trying the 5w20 mobil one now-even though I searched again last night and found several posts in various forum-jeep unlimited and such-on people that have the rubicon with the NV3550 and a lot actually emailed New Venture Gear them selves and were told "it's basically 5w30 oil" with a reply from them-
so in all I am happy with the mobil one-I will let ya know how the 5w20 works-expecialy when it gets colder here.As a matter of fact I will post it after I get to work from this morning it will be a "cold" shift.
As for the transfercase mobil one has been in there for 3 months now.I drained it a week ago and no strange stuff came out just clean oil.It shifts a works great as well...

personally, i use tractor transmission/hydraulic fluid from the local parts store in the tranny (ax-15) and trans-case (NP231D). about 30,000 miles on them both since i switched and no problems yet...... the t-case needs all new seals so it leaks rather profusly from it, but it did them same on mercon so can't blame the fluid.....
