while the jeep has been on hiatus, I am getting ready to work on it some more...

here is my next phase for my dd:

4:1 gears and rebuild and flip the shortshaft d300, and install with new driveshafts (f+r) and the factory d44.

the xj is on 33's now and may go to 35's in the future.

so the question is with the 4:1 low, is there a reason to regear the axles? doesn't the 4:1 give me enough low end for even the 35's without doing the axles?

btw, the axles will get arbs f+r, so knowing what gears I am going to run effects which arb model I buy...

You would be putting alot of stress on your driveline, have poor highway driveability, and still have only nominal gearing in low range. For the cost of a 4:1 you could properly gear your diff's and be better off.

if you are keeping the d30 - run the lowest you can and dont look back 4.88...

It doesnt seem like this rig will see too much street time...
