and most people will tell you to buy a d44 - however, remember that you will need all new parts for your brakes, u-joints, bearings, and all that... and it ads up quick...
You're driving a vehicle with the aerodynamic qualities of a brick. If you want to save gas there are many, many cheaper alternatives that will save more gas than a hub conversion will.
Jim's correct as usual. Gas mileage is NOT a reason to do the conversion.
If you want to run a front locker and have NO street "quirks"...
If you want to be able to unlock the hubs and get off the trail after tweaking a driveshaft or u-joint...
If you want serviceable wheel bearings instead of a unit bearing...
If you're getting vibes from the front axle after a lift and have no more adjustment room in the control arms for pinion angle without trashing the castor...
These are a few reasons TO do the conversion. :wave:
