don't they have some sort of attatchment to adjust the brakes depending on the amount of weight in the bed? dunno, just trying to think of everything

Yup, MJs have a little bracket on the diff cover for the proportioning valve arm, but it just bolts on.

AFAIK, or anyone else, the size of the brakes depends solely on axle type and year, not whether XJ or MJ. The MJ's did have an option for a metric ton package which included a D-44. It's not as clear what XJ's were built with the D-44. The D-44's on either XJ or MJ have the largest drum brakes.

The 10" by 2.5" drums can reside in both XJ's and MJ's.
