Np242 to 231

I have a 00' xj limited, 35 out back and auto. I'm getting a 92 beater xj with an sye. The guy says in a 231, not too sure. It will bolt straight up to my 00'? I feel like a noob cause I should know this...

Do you have the AW4 auto in your '00? As long as the spline count matches (23) the case will bolt right up. The sensor that lights up the dash light when you are in 4wd is different between the 231 and 242. Also the shift gate is different as well. You should be fine with the stock front drive shaft, but since the 231 you want has an SYE you will need to replace the rear one.

ok cool, yea im not sure on the spline count, i'll have to check it when the jeep gets here this weekend. same for it having a 231. so it is possible, but i'll have a retarded light when im in 4wd

being a 92 it should have the 23 spline
