DTC 24 and poor shifting

I have a DTC 24: TPS Input Above The Maximum Acceptable Voltage

Also, the vehicle shifts poorly in 3/4 with lots of slippage and gear hunting. Works well in 1/2. Fluid was of unknown type. Fluid color was dark, but smelled fine. No debris in pan or filter.

What is the procedure for the diagnosing the TPS? I'm thinking that it needs to be fixed before I swap the transmission.

Thanks,

Nate

Well, for a follow up here goes:

I swapped the TPS to another Jeep and got the same code. Replaced the TPS with a new sensor. Changed and flushed the transmission fluid and filter. Adjusted the transmission throttle cable. Vehicle now drives and shifts perfect. No codes.
