Ok the XJ I picked up has the tow package (vin verified) but the axle tag says 355. Am I missing something? Axles are the original axles and haven't been messed with.
Those 'some' XJs with the 3.73 were pre-Chrysler. By the time they took over, you could pretty much expect 3.55 behind the 4.0L if you had an automatic, and 3.07 behind the 4.0L with the 5-speed.
The 3.55 gears with AW4 and 4.0 tow just fine, trust me. I've done it quite a few times (from heavy-hauling short range to cross-country with a 3000# weight penalty in a box...)
yea its fine, I was just curious... I'm running 32s so I was going to stay with the gears if they were 373s, but if they were 355s I was going to throw in a set of 410s.
x2 for the 4.56. its okay to bring your freeway rpms up a little, closer to peak torque will be nice for passing and wont have a huge affect on mileage when crusing, and your town mileage mihgt go up cause you dont have to mash the pedal as much
