Which FRS?

It's a Uniden. I looked it up and it is an FRS on amazon but there was no mention of that acronym anywhere. I know a lot of acronyms but FRS was new to me and seemed like it was more of a brand than an actual FCC regulated frequency band.

Guess Nate and I are going to have to mouth hug....I just bought a Baofang......

Ram" Program this for me Nate" Rod

Just got a programming cable...nate I may hit you up if I can't get it figured out. I can also bring a laptop to help program if I get it figured out.

OH, how much? programmed right?

The ones we are selling will be $10 I believe .....we have not decided yet. Yes they are already programmed these are not the fancy one's in the links above you can program........ they come pre-programed

the FRS units the chapter has are simple basic handhelds.

They are actually compliant with th FCC, so limited range compared to a 5r, and they don't do any VHF/UHF frequencies other than FRS.

I just got my UV5R today. Nice little radio.

My local police freq is 154.77000 I programmed that into my first channel. With out the last 2 zeros of course. Should i still be able to pick up that freq? Also What frq step should we be running with this style radio? Im at 5k now.

Ive programmed local freqs and have been scanning to see if it works but no such luck yet.

I know when i left the department we were just getting new radios and switching to 800 or digital. Dont know if that has any affect.

the 5r has no ability to trunk track, shift frequencies or decrypt DEX stuff.

So it's probably pretty useless for your PD coms. "Digital" usually means trunked and encryption.

There are also receiving and transmitting steps on a lot of those frequencies. If you don't match them, you won't hear anything on the frequency.

A lot of those freqs on the preppers spreadsheet include a bunch of stuff that doesn't make sense to me, but makes the channels work.

I spent a little more money on a name brand antenna.

With one of these:

And one of these to hook it to the radio:

And if you want to take the antenna off but leave the mount on top of the jeep:

You're into it for $60 to put wire it into the jeep. It works awesome with the little radio and if I ever want to do it HAM style, it's the same stuff.
