turn the axle...
If the driveshaft/pinion turns a touch over 4 times...
It'll be 4.10...
Or is it the other way around?
If you turn one side of the axle and the other side goes the opposite way...
Open diff...
If they both go the same direction...
Limited Slip
correct on the axle turning
there is so much BAD and INCORECT info in this thread....
holy jesus...
1- cross shaft is the same fawking size for all models... - hence the reason that the lunchbox lockers dont mention the cross shaft difference
2-all exploder rear ends had 31 splines on the axle shafts where the shaft meets the carrier
3-the Ranger rear end with DRUM BRAKES would be a 28 spline and is weaker and WAY narrower than the exploder rear end
4-1995 and newer had the discs (some 1994 - rare, near the end of the model year)
5-the tracklock is not worth a damn compared to the d35 tracklock - i would buy an open carrier and a aussielocker - well worth the 220 for the locker... and the junkyards want something like 150 more for the "locked" rear end and you cant lunchbox a limited slip carrier (at least i couldnt lunchbox my d35 tracklock - even with grinding and all that)
6-the more splines - (generaly) the bigger the shaft - this is true in the case of the 8.8
the 31 splines are 1.31" DIA - just like the ford 9" 31 spline shafts...
so the larger shaft with 31 splines would be stronger than the smaller 28 spline shaft. Also the 9" car version came with 28 splines and weaker (than the 31) shafts... see a ford trend?
7-the crysler 8.25 did have 2 different spline counts 27 and 29 - the 29 being the stronger setup...
