So I have been looking for a new 97+ Cherokee since May and have yet to find anything. Right now there is all of one, yes ONE, 97+ Cherokee for sale within 50 miles of my zip code on cars.com. Where in the hell are all the Cherokees for sale? Hell, there's even hardly any 96 and older ones around. You type in "Jeep Cherokee" on craigslist and find nothing but Grand Cherokees. Am I missing something or have they all disappeared?
 
Try Smith Trucks in Montara he buys & sells the XJ's used by the state and counties, he's also got a warehouse of spare parts. His phone is (six50) 7two8two800. GhostXJ got his 98 from him and it's pretty clean. He had 3 or 4 more at the time. The owners name is Steve and he's not a typical used car salesman.

Hey i just had info on a business card for a clean XJ i e-mailed to tonoclay and sharksXJ last week. the guy wanted 6,500. had 110 thousand miles 3 inch lift all terrain tires. Saw it in Redwood City on Jefferson i would have bought it if i needed a cherokee and i could have talked him down a little on the price. It had some other stuff and it was pretty clean. Black with grey interior

I looked at that super clean one a month ago or so. I drove all the way to Walnut Creek to look at it. Got there and thought for sure that was the "one." The thing was absolutely impeccable. Then I hoped it and took it for a drive and drove less then a block when I looked down and noticed a lever was missing. The damn thing wasn't 4x4. I never even thought to ask the guy before I drove up to look at it.

I'm looking for one thats in pretty good shape with about 100,000 miles on it and no more than $4500. There's been 2 that fit that category that caught my eye but both were at dealers asking $7000 for it so I said forget it.
 
How ironic. I posted this late last night and even posted in it earlier today and then there was a new ad posted on craigslist for a clean 98 limited and I just bought it. The wait and frustration are finally over.
 
Cool! I was in the market for quite a while before I found what I was looking for. The cash for clunkers really killed the supply of XJ's. 3 weeks ago I finally found a '93 Country with 46k miles on it! It's not perfect, but its in pretty nice shape. Got a good price for it and I just sold my '94 SE for cheap.

Theres a light blue 99 2 door 5 speed around the corner from me. Pretty good shape, but not better than mine.

But they say it has 160k, and they want 4 grand. hahahaha
 
Just for future reference, typing "jeep cherokee -grand" will take any posting containing the word "grand" out of the search.
 
I just picked up a 98 for my daughter for $1360 in Marin... found it on Craigslist. High miler 226k, but runs well and just needs some rear passenger side bodywork.
 
Just cut off the quarter panel and call it good Tim. Yeah when i lived in the rust belt people would do this. I saw a 1970 chevelle super sport with a 20,000 engine and no rear quarter panels cut off due to rust. Not what i would do but what do i know.
 
Not what I would do either... It is actually a really nice truck even with the damage. For the money I am super pleased. More importantly Dad's a hero!
 
Yeah i like the new body style better that's just me though. Sounds like a good deal yeah if you blow the engine just rebuild it and yer back on the road. Now to get her wheeling
