the thermostats job is to keep heat IN the engine.
whether or not it overheats is a reflection on how much heat the cooling syste mcan dissipate. If it overheats with a 195 it will likely overheat with a 170 as well, because your cooling system isn't up to the task either way.
installing a lower temp thermostat doesn't magically increase the effectiveness of the cooling system.
another option to lower the temp for your efan is to have the PCM reprogrammed for it.
but probably way easier to put a switc hto te relay. There's only one place that "supposedly" can reprogram the XJ ECU.
