I have two questions. What year cherokees came with the non c-clip D35's? Also what year Ford Explorers came with the best 8.8 axles? I did search and couldnt find any answers. Thanks in advance.

I want to say that the '90 and older axles were non C clip. As for the 8.8, most people seem to lean towards the 971/2 and newer, becuase suppossedly, these axles come standard with 3.73 gears, trac-lock, and 31 splines axles, with disc brakes as standard.

Actually, I believe 1989 was the last year for the non c-clip D35. More than likely it is paired up with the brakes. Chrysler likes 9" drums, so if the drums are 10x1.75 the eaxle is most likely a non c-clip, and if the drums are 9x2.5 the axle is probably a c-clip.
