Shop Woes - those bastards!

get this - had a shop do my master cylinder and slave the other day..

i also had a clunking, rattling, only when starting from a dead stop (i have a manual tranny)....they said it was DEFINATELY a rear u-joint...but the jeep never repeated this noise, only from 0-3mph...

test drove it with a friend, who put a foot on the center console, and put some weight on it,...sound was gone - loose screws/cracked brackets holding the console down....
 
Yea, but the u-joint's still probably bad. :D



Learn to do it yourself and save a bundle. :thumbup:

oh, by the way, your rear leaf-spring mounting u-bolts are loose. :D

oh i can do the u-joint myself - but i got under there, no more than 1/4-1/2" play in the driveshaft, it's tight moving anywhere else.
 
aye aye capt'n..backlash in the diff

a u-joint can also go dry and tighten up... to properly check it you should remove the shaft and rotate the joints by hand
