Keeping an updated list with average reviews would be quite labor intensive for you. I would just keep an OP list of all the JY, and let individuals search through the responses for reviews.

Ill start off with my own experience:

LKQ in Clayton NC:
Nice people to deal with, decent prices. There were ~10 XJs, ~4 ZJs and some other assorted Jeeps and other usable vehicles for the XJ. The problem with this JY is that the vehicles are stripped so quickly due to alot of vistors, I rarely ever find those uncommon items we look for.

Pull-a-Part in Charlotte, off North Tryon St. just outside of the University Area.

They're OK if you have a pre 97 XJ, if you have a late model XJ, It's really not worth it unless you're looking for a part that you know will work on any year XJ. They had one 99 come in back in December, and it got stripped clean in a day. Costs $1 entry per person, and you can't bring power tools, only hand tools.

There's soon to be one opening up on the North side of Winston Salem also.

Re: Junkyards Sticky

thanks for the compliment!

Re: Junkyards Sticky

I'll share.

Jerry Pelham's Auto Salvage, Woodbury, TN: They usually have 5-6 XJ's and 6-8 ZJ's. Open weekly and Saturday until 12pm. They let you look around.

Gary's Auto Salvage, Jamestown, TN: Lots of XJ's, ZJ's and Explorers. Old school yard. They let you look around. Not open on Saturday or Sunday.

Addresses and phone numbers are available with a Yahoo search. I'm too lazy to link them. Help me out bigalpha. Hopefully these will help somebody.

Pull-a-part Charlotte NC
The website says they have about 7 including a 1996 and a 1979, which both are not XJ's. The 1996 is a Dodge van and the 1979 looks like a Willies, its in bad shape hard to tell. The other actually XJ's are pretty much picked through, although their are some nice headliners and interior trim panels, some other little stuff.

U-Pull-it Rock Hill SC
If you go there the people at the desk will say that they only have three but i know that there are about 8 XJ's including two 97+. Most of them have some decent parts. Cost a dollar to go it too. hand tools.

P.S. Use to be called Carolina Salvage.

Re: Junkyards Sticky

okay okay... being that one of my hidin treasures was givin away today on the episode of trucks.

think they called in auto recyclers in ardmore alabama or something like that. i will get an address later. this place is a gold mine. lets just say i am about to walk away with full widths for $250 frt and rear.

another is
Complete auto recyclers
http://www.completeautorecyclers.com/

and of course as mentioned before is the pull apart in bham.

Atlanta North Pull-a-part:

Has 7 XJs all are pre-97, regardless of what website says... I counted them just this morning and they're 7 there, mostly complete. I seem to always find a pretty good selection at the North Location, the south and east seem a little bit XJ poor.

There is an LKQ in Charleston, SC that normally has a decent selection of pre-97 XJ's and Grand Cherokees. It is $2 to get in and for those that don't know there is a set price list that is kind of nice so an axle has a price no matter what it is out of, no matter how rare or hard to find. You can take power tools in, my buddy has even taken in a generator to run tools. Not sure on there rules about torches or not. Hope this helps.

...i just had an idea!

has anyone thought of using a powertank, or source air tank to run air tools while they're at the junkyard? i mean, we use them on the trail, why not there? ...depending on rules of course

and if you're in the greater Richmond area, there's two pick/pulls owned by the same company. Chesterfield Auto Recycling is right outside of downtown, and the sister field Circle Auto Recycling is about 20 minutes south of the city about 2 miles off I95 (and about 10 minutes from my house :))

open 7 days, 8:00 - 7:00 summer hours, 8:00 - 5:00 winter hours (they change their hours with daylight savings time).

They did close for Easter Sunday, though:mad:

I have two uncles in South Carolina that own two separate Junk Yards. One is C&R Auto Salvage in Orangeburg, and the other is Tri-BET Auto Salvage, also in Orangeburg (outskirts). C&R is much bigger, and usually has a huge selection of trucks, and XJ's. I was there last year and they had a 97 up with a Skjacker 4-5" lift with adjustable arms... Both places are good people.

Hey, I found this junkyard on a website that turned up when I was searching something other than junkyards. I have no firsthand knowledge of this place but I copied what was on the site for anyone that is interested. Maybe someone local can help with what kind of place it is and if they are a decent place to buy parts.

Ironman Jeep Parts - junk yard
1599 Midway Road, Pickens, SC 29671, 864-878-2903, [email protected]
M-F 9-6, Sat 9-1:30
Large junkyard with over 200 Jeeps and several dozen Scouts. They are a small town, family owned-family run business that lets you pull your own parts. They also have a small 2 bay shop where they perform engine/tranny swaps, cut down axles, install roll cages, put in lockers, etc.
Directions: I-85 N, to exit #21 - Hwy 178, go west on Hwy 178. Go through Liberty. Go through Pickens downtown on Hwy 178. Three (3) miles past Pickens Main Street, find Masters Grocery on right and turn right on Midway Road. Go 4.5 miles and Ironman Jeep Parts is on left.

Not far from Iron-Man

Mostly late model stuff but all they drive on the lot are XJs. One of the owners is very knowledgeable about 4x4s. Got my WJ swap from there.

In fact, last time I went up there I saw a guy driving an XJ with no tires on it. lol Just rims.
