School me on Smart Phones

Verizon has by far the best service out there, if anyone tells you otherwise they don't know what they are talking about.

The Iphone is the mose amazing item I have ever purchased hands down as far as electronics go. It is the most user friendly phone out there, the screen is so vivid and clear compared to the other phones, the camera takes amazing pictures, the speakers sound great, and did I mention how user friendly it is? I did lots of researching before I bought my Iphone 4 and know I made the right decision.

I talked to three diferent sales people at verizon all of which had android phones, they were all pushing the androids on me so hard that it seemed obvious THEY WERE TOLD TO DO SO! I asked all three if they had Iphones before and they all said yes. I asked them which phones crashed more often and they said the android phones crash more often than their Iphones. I also asked which phone was easier to use, they all agreed the Iphone was more user friendly.

My boss is known in the gresham verizon store as "the phone tester," he goes through phones like crazy! He either breaks them or returns them because he doesn't like them and he has had all the high end motorolas, HTC's, blackberrys, and so on. I convinced him to get a IPhone and he says without a doubt he will never go back and it is the best phone he has ever had.

Iphones do not get viruses so you can look at all the porn you want! The apps are secure unlike the android apps which can be made and put on the market corrupt from the begining! Iphones don't have flash, who cares? I think the little flash clips are annoying anyways. I use my I phone for everything, camera, video, music player, surf the net, check email, and so on. Thats my 2 cents!

I've got a droid2.
Verizon.
I can talk and use apps and internet all 3 at the same time.
service is great.
Have had unlimited data for years, mines a global plan.
(verizon doesn't operate in canada)
a bit pricey, but for nationwide, you'll be set.

you'll love looking up anything, anytime, anywhere.
its the internet in your pocket, no more needs to be said.

email, forums, social networking, whatever you want, its out there.

my fiance has an iphone with global data in our same service plan.
she loves it.

play with both phones, go with the one that speaks to you.
if you have a PC at home, you'll like a droid.
if you're a mac guy, get an iphone.

can't go wrong either way!

welcome to the future!

Got Verizon now, so chances are I'll be staying with them.

I'm not a big fan of Apple, so I've been eyeing the Droid products.
Because it is Apple does not mean it operates like a Apple computer, it does mean it is more reliable, faster and better quality though like apples computers are. I have a PC because thats the computer I know how to use, I am fully aware that Macs are better than PC's but it is easier to keep using my PC.

I would also like to add that I am extremely hard on phones, after a month of use my phones always look like they have been abused. I have had my Iphone 4 for 4 months now and it does not have a single scratch, or mark on it. The phones are very rugged, it sounds scary that they have glass on the back and front but with a good case you can litterally drop your phone out the window of a skyscrapper!

the iphone is a neat gadget. With the cool video editing. I just hate itunes

iPhone 4 on Verizon service..

Best phone, best service.. Besides satellite..

I don't even have a cell right now because of how expensive Verizon is. But I gave up free t mobile service for it with NO regrets..

I have a MyTouch HTC 4g through T-Mobile. My buddy is the manager at one of the stores so we get hooked up for our family plan. My wife and I.

We were with Verizon, however, in order to upgrade to a better phone I had to switch to a more expensive data plan. The phone I had was touchscreen, considered multimedia, even though I was already paying $30 for a data package they said I had to get a different data package to use a "smartphone".

The only thing I liked about Verizon was that you get coverage out in the boonies...unless you're surrounded by mountains and such.

The main reason for the switch to T-mobile was $$. We've got 2gigs of data per line, unlimited text + 700minutes, free nights/weekends etc and are paying the same amount we did w/Verizon for same minutes/nights/weekends, but with only one data plan.

Android market does have more free apps than the iStore. You definitely gotta go into the different stores and see which phone fits you. If you text, and got used to T9... Swype is hella cool. You just slide your finger of the touch keyboard and it forms the word for you. My phone also has a forward facing camera so you can Skype/Yahoo Messenger video chat etc or talk with someone else who has a phone w/forward facing camera with video feed.

There's touchscreens with slide out keyboards... people with big fingers don't usually do well with touchscreens.

Another feature I love with my phone is the Genius button. I hold it down for a second and then speak: Find directions to...call so and so...search internet for.... It's nice to have a hands free search. You can also have voice to text texting. So instead of having to text, you just talk into the mic and it writes out the text for you.

I'm sure other smart phones on other carriers do similar... never been a fan of AT&T. Only heard negative feedback about service/customer service and dropped calls. Now that Verizon has the iPhone AT&T should be dropping customers...

One cool app I love is the Barcode Scanner. Scan the barcode on a product and you can search the interweb for the same product either online or at other stores. Great way to be a savvy shopper.

Most carriers don't have "unlimited" data...there are typically different tiers of data plans. 200kb...2gigs, 4 gigs etc. Once you reach your limit, they sllloooowwww your interweb speed down pretty good. However, I use the internet quite a bit and have never been close to my 2gigs.

Another thing to remember is phones w/Wifi...if you're somewhere that has free Wifi, or wireless at home etc... you can tap into that Wifi and it doesn't use your data plan minutes. You can also Wifi-call people doing that which doesn't eat up minutes either.

What I would do if I were you. Go get an iPhone 4 and take for the 30 day spin around the block. Then take it back and trade it for the latest greatest android and see for your self. But also remember that iOS 5 the 200 new features and the new phone is slated for release in September. I have read things about 3d, close to jail broke, flash player lite, 10mp camera, world phone capable on all networks and many other things.

Or save the $35 restocking fee and get an android in the first place. Btw its only a 14 day return policy with vzw. Also, Apple has said the new iPhone won't be out until October. If you want to wait two months you can.Seriously though, just do some research on independent websites, go play with the phones and make the decision that you'll be happy with.

I've got an LG Optimus V through Virgin Mobile. Apparently they use Sprint's network. I havn't been too impressed with the coverage but 300 min. talk and unlimited text, email, web for $35 a month I'm not complaining.

AT&T is 30days, and if you tell them your unsure on what you want. They will put a note to wave the fee. That's what we did.

Totally off topic, but TSF August 26-28.
I would love to go to tsf with you guys but I will be on my honeymoon in maui, Erin and I are getting married on the 20th! Starting September I will finally have a free weekend. I have not had the jeep out in months:(

Ask a Jeep question and you will get 1 responce a day. As a smart phone question and you get pages of opinions!!

I have been useing smart phones since well before they were popular and have had my fair share of them. I travel alot for work and so there are not that many functions that I don't use on them. However since I mostly use my phone for work there are several functions that are important to me that I will point out.

I am now useing an original droid (Motorola) and have been for about 2 years.

It can do ANYTHING that you can possibly imagine and it does it very well. Great screen, fast functions, cazilion apps, download and watch movies, mp3, etc, etc, etc. My service is through Verizon.

I can have a bluetooth stereo headset on listening to turn by turn guidance (free) and still talk to somone on the phone and hear both without them hearing the turn by turn. At the same time, I can look up a contact for the person and pause the internet search I was doing. Try 1/2 of that on just about any other phone.

Battery Life: the more memory and screen you have the shorter the life will be. I am inpressed mine has done well but don't expect any of them to last much more than 2 years.

sync: This is where ALL smart phones are dumb unless you have a microsoft exchange server. The ability to wirelessly sync your contacts, e-mail, notes, etc is not brilliant. This is where the Blackberry rules and it is the one area I am really disapointed with my Droid. I-phone has the same issue. Windows phones might be a little better but missing all sorts of other functions that it might catch up to in a couple of years.

Hard reset: I do have to hard reboot my phone a couple of times a week or it will stop picking up e-mail. I have heard that the newer ones don't have this issue at all, mine is old but it has had this issue since I got it.

The number of apps and functionality of the phone are incredible and I would never go back for what I use mine for.

In the end, I would consider size to be just about as important as anything else.

I am very happy with Verizon.

Michael

I have a samsung epic 4g (typing this on it). This phone has gone swimming multiple times, caugh on fire and beel dropped, thrown, kicked and tossed, it still works great. I reccomend samsung phones they are the best. My phone can wirelessly connect up to 5 devices ie lap tops or people with at&t to the internet, but that service is $30/mo through sprint. I have unlimited data and I talk to everyone all day and have never gone over my bill is $130/mo with the hot spot.
