sand blast axle shafts

I have a dana 30 housing i am going to bring in to be sand blasted tomorrow... i pulled the shafts and they are pretty rusty... i am assuming it is safe to sand blast everything but the splines and where it looks like the axle seal is on the inner splines?

Sandblasting (or other media blasing) is fine on the general shaft surface - you can use a wire wheel (pref brass or bronze) going longwise down the splines, and a light touch with emery or crocus will clean the sealing surface. Flush the shaft with carburettor cleaner to remove grit when you're done.
