yes I removed the girdle to be able to get to the bearing cap off. I went as far as two bearing caps back but no luck. I'll have to go back one or two more and see if that takes some pressure out along with the blaster.

Mine does not have a girdle, but I did have to remove the last main cap obviously, followed by loosening up 2 more caps. Mine was completely wedged in the upper half of the block. I bought a piece of brass rod (cant remember the diameter), and used that with a hammer to tap it out. It worked great. Just have to give it some solid blows with the hammer.

I'll be trying that this weekened. Hopefully it doesn't rain by then, I just placed the oil pan over the axle but most of it is still exposed.
