Rc Rock Crawlers....

check your gears. sometimes you have to use a razor or knife to get small rocks and debris out of the gears. that will cause "ticking"

II bought the cheap rs10 off CL for a good deal. And I upgraded steering servo, steel gears, lower gears, aluminum and harder pin spur gear plate. I'm currently making a bodiless chassis for it. That would be fun to get together and crawl around, just send me a pm with your number and we can set up some time

it's making a ticking noise where ever i drive around....
When ever I get a little ticking noise I check the main pinion/ring gear. Theres always a little rock or dirt packed in there. even scrape out each gear if theres nothing obvious. Works everytime for me!

alright thanks guys for the tip ill check it out. and also before i do it nothing is going to fly out as soon as i open it up is it? because that would jsut suck if i did open it and i couldnt put it back together haha but i'm sure nothing will

nothing will pop out.
some have a cover. when you remove that cover the main plastic gear will have a nut and spring on it, if you take it off just make sure you pay attention to the washers to make sure they go back on correctly. the pinion will have a small allen wrench screw.
its very simple. (keep in mind most motors have one flat side on the motor shaft. make sure the pinion screw tightens down on the flat part)
after i drove mine for a while i decided to tear it all down and grease everything. if you do it once, it easy after that. maybe take cell phone pics of parts before you tear them down so you can have some reference. you will want to tear it down a couple times a year to clean and grease everything.

ok haha. but now that i look at it in order to take the axle apart i have to take the links off and knckles and stuff off dont i? or is it just those 4 bolts that are where the pumkin is?

i happen to have a crawler myself. had if for around 2 years now. got an XJ body and painted er just like my 1:1.

Either is fine, depends on what you are doing.

The first time I took mine apart I pulled the whole axle and took it apart very carefully checking everything I did along the way. Once I had it apart and saw how simple it really is, I now may not pull the links or the axle and just pull the cover or shafts depending on why I am pulling it apart.

Either way it is a great learning experience.

those 4 and there may be caps on the ends of the axle.. they are on there to hold the end of the axle together. still very easy!
