Possible desert racing closure.

Just read this over at the M.O.R.E. Racing website.

In case you haven't heard, there was a horrible racing accident in Lucerne, Ca. Saturday that claimed the lives of 8 spectators. Now it sounds as if BLM might try to kill racing there:

"OK Racers and Fans Just had a meeting with the BLM as of right now they cannot give me any info on our upcoming race, they will let me know next week.

As of now they have in mind to Close Off Road Racing. You need to E mail or call now saying you are against this closing. to E mail them you need to go to the BLM site as they are not listing their e mail address. you need to fill out their questionnaire.

You need to do this in a good way, and explain to them the lost of shuting this down and the effect it will have on our Racing Community."

Not only for the racing community but it will be a huge revenue loss for for the lucerne valley/stoddard wells area.

These small communities count on these events for a source of revenue. By shutting down the racing they in essence will be shutting down these communities.

Just got a response from BLM:

Hello,
Thank you for contacting the Bureau of Land Management.

The BLM is conducting an official national review of the tragic OHV
incident on Saturday, August 14, at its Johnson Valley OHV Open Area, as
well as continuing to cooperate with other involved law enforcement
agencies in the law enforcement investigation. We expect the review and
investigations to be done expeditiously, but we have no specific completion
date. We will issue further information as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, the BLM is reviewing all OHV events in the California Desert
District for safety provisions. At this point, all options that would
increase the safety to spectators of these kinds of events on public lands
are being considered.

According to RaceDezert Forum, BLM has given go-ahead for BITD Vegas to Reno (Friday) and Mojave Offroad's Chili Cookoff 200 (Sep 11)

Yuo I just saw this on the JeepSpeed forum also.

Was coming in to post that here as well. While it's great that they're still allowing the races that were already permitted to continue as planned, that doesn't mean we're out of the clear yet. Hopefully the BLM gets enough of a POSITIVE response from the community to see that we're not the "lawless drunks" in a "mad-max atmosphere" that the media would have the general public believe us to be.

Thanks for the support everyone, keep it coming. Every voice helps.

Liked on FB. This is some BS.
