Please share photos of your cargo area.

I got inspired by XJersey and blantantly copied his rack, with a couple modifications of my own.

I put the jack up on the back side to keep the groceries.. uhh.. cooler, yeah, the cooler from sliding over the seat.

The tire will eventually move to a Tailbone later this year, and I'll organize all my stuff into totes then.

Here is what I did a couple years ago. Its combined of a few ideas from others. I plan to loose the rear seat and extend it forward.

I chose closed tops as they can double as a work area. I used 100lb HD shelf sliders from Lowes and the paint is a Oil base brush on from ACE to resist solvents.

The carpet is left over from Home depot. Basically same as speaker box carpet. The 4 tie down rings on the corners are the factory ones that were on the floor. I then used those 4 holes to mount this to the floor.

I know this is a old thread, but I am new here... l just bought this XJ from another NAXJA member and I didn't see where he had posted in this thread. He did an excellent job with a rear storage area. It incorporates on board air, stereo equipment, and the second battery (Optima yellow top). The yellow top is located just in front of the ARB setup. I started getting it all cleaned up and getting my stuff moved in and organized. Here is a pic that he had of it.

Shelf is built from an old roof rack. The drawer is a Tuffy underseat drawer for a CJ. The Viair compressor and 2.5 gallon tank are mounted behind it. The orange bag is a large ARB recovery bag and it holds 2 25ft straps, tree saver, snatch block, and the d ring shackles.

I reworked my cargo area to hold the 33" inch spare in the rear. I moved the rear seat brackets so the seat back is more upright. I built the plywood toolbox a while ago, but now it houses all the extra gear oil, u-joints, recovery stuff, etc and holds the compressor and fire extinguisher on top. Crescent tool kit and a small husky bag with other misc tools like hammer, 15" crescent wrench, monkey wrench, etc. Spare nuts, bolts, and hardware in an ammo can. Small shovel behind spare. Everything is strapped down and still room for cooler and stuff.

i didnt 100% steal this from fireLt. but his rack gave me the idea to do a similar rack.
this was before i installed it and welded on the feet i bolted to the floor
finishedhackrack.jpg

this is it all installed, my tool box and ice chest go underneath and on top i'll have my nitrogen tank clothing bags and chairs on top (the rest goes in the roof rack)
i made the high back on it for the simple reason of i didnt want to take a chance on things flying forward at me in the even of an accident even if they are tied down
what you see now is how it rides as my daily driver.

if i had to do it all over again, i'd prolly change the depth from 28 inches to 27 or 26 inches. it rides really close to the hatch door.

I hope that is bolted to the floor. Looks good.

ya if you look at the center legs, i used the old spare tire brace bolt holes on one side, then the passenger side i used the old tie down hook hole and drilled it out and ran a bolt down through it and snugged it down that way,

Some new photos of my cargo drawer:

It's 3/4" birch ply, screwed and glued, with 250lb slides and some nice pretty aluminum trim :jester:

Plenty of room for gobs of tools and some oil bottles:

I was tired of the extinguisher getting packed under 900 lbs of camping crap, so while I was at it, I rigged up a fire extinguisher mount to keep it handy:

Pull the pin...

...and the extinguisher lifts free.
