"Bandits who gunned down a U.S. Border Patrol agent during a December firefight near Nogales may have been armed with assault rifles purchased from a Valley gun store in conjunction with a federal sting operation and subsequently smuggled into Mexico, according to a key member of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

"In letters to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, suggests that negligence by federal agents who failed to keep the firearms out of Mexico may have played a part in the slaying of Agent Brian Terry, a member of the Border Patrol's elite tactical unit known as BORTAC."

The amount of stupidity on the BATFE's behalf in this instance is just staggering.

This is the "sue the 7 Eleven you bought your cigarettes from because you caught cancer" mentality. The blame for the border agent's death rests solely on the individuals who killed him. No where else. You might as well blame the manufacturer of the vehicle he drove for taking him to his death.

If only you could get this country to understand that simple statement!

When the shooting started, the source said, agents returned fire with non-lethal bean bags, then bullets.

This bothers me a lot more than knowing the ATF didn't prevent weapons from reaching Mexico a year later.

Yep. Bringing bean bags to a gun fight...probably need to blame some 20sumthin, spandex wearin, plastic helmeted, bike riding, hipster who has no life experience sitting at a desk making rules, regs and protocols...

Bureaucrats.

Terry and his teammates were hunting for rip crews, robbers who target illegal immigrants and smugglers, when they spotted five armed men near Rio Rico. The Republic source, who requested anonymity, said BORTAC agents called out, "Policia!" and attempted to arrest the suspects. When the shooting started, the source said, agents returned fire with non-lethal bean bags, then bullets.

You spot 5 armed men. Then you approach to within shotgun range towards people presumably armed with automatic weapons with guns loaded with bean bags. What's wrong with this picture?
