np242 from 87 XJ fit in 98 XJ?

It's custom. I tried calling them but I must have missed their hours of operation. Nice part is that they are just an hour away.......

I've dug around the Internet and the spline count seems to be the same, but for verification will a 1992 NP242 work in a 1998 XJ with a NP242?
 
spline count is the same but the speedo will be different, that's not a big deal though just move the old one and you're done

Speedo different? You mean the gear or the housing?

My idea here is to get this "spare" put the SYE on it, rebuild it and then swap it with my current 242. If I have to move parts from the old one I guess I could still do it.
