New to me 85 XJ 2.5l

Just picked up this XJ yesterday. Runs and drives. Shifts smooth, idles smooth, and wide open throttle is smooth, it's the in between I have to figure out. People were saying this was the place to join to get help figuring out issues so I thought I would join.
Seems like the previous owner had been trying to figure it out. Came with a new in the box fuel pump, coil, solenoid. I'm thinking it's a vacuum issue, either way. This my introduction and hopefully as I work on this thing in the future I will be able to tap into a 2.5l carborated guru.

Welcome, you came to the right place with .
I'm no 2.5 guru, but with vacuum leaks you usually
have a fast and/or poor idle.

Some suggestions; check for a vacuum leak at the brake
booster or the check valve. After that, maybe a tune up
with new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.....

Notorious for the carb leaking between the base plate and the main body.
Also, the intake and exhaust manifold bolts loosen up.
