You should be good to go then. Start it up and drive it. I've never heard of anyone doing any kind of break in for a head gasket on a 4.0L. And that multilayer steel is superior to the composite gasket you pulled off.

But would anyone happen to know if the 99 has a MLS or composite gasket? I can't seem to tell just by looking at the motor.

Bryson I just picked up a OEM head gasket from the stealership, it is MLS. Does anybody know if they require a sealant for the stock MLS gasket or is it dry? 98XJSport was yours an MLS gasket?

Mine that came off wasn't MLS but the OEM one I got was. Hard to tell what they came with, being a jeep

The MLS gasket I put in required no sealant, and is fine so far.

My 2000's original stock gasket was composite, not MLS. On the passenger side of the block, at the rear of the head you should be able to see part of the gasket exposed.
