never ending squeeking belt

oh wow...how many miles did that take? LOL

Surprisingly few. Something like 130k or so. But I did use the Jeep for 4wheeling so it saw dusty conditions sometimes. Dust on the belt & pulley would cause that wear.

I might suggest using only a Gates brand belt, or a Goodyear Gatorback. We've gone through this madness numerous times with our fleet of four XJs, and the good belt, along with proper tension from a KrikitII has always solved it. I once had the belt so tight on my '96 that I ruined a recent water pump and the idler bearing. The belt does want to be tight, though. 160-180 is what I'm thinking.

yea, the belt was brand new...along with a few other parts. it was the balancer though. replaced and good by squeek. the rubber was all dry rotted. not bad, but bad enough.
