dam all this time Ive been pouring 10w30 on my feet, to find out now it wont do anything!

I doubt using 1st to hold the vehicle (it won't, btw) should cause any harm to the tranny or the synchros.

It does hold the weight of the vehicle most of the time. If it is a very steep hill it will turn the engine unless you put it in 4low, and use a chock.
