I am looking at ordering a Stak transfercase but I think the 5.44:1 may be too low for an AW4 Auto with 4.88 gears on 35's. What do you guys think?

If you're only getting a 2 ratio box I would definitely not go over 4:1 (thus eliminatin STaK as an option), if you're getting a 3 ratio box either the 1, 2.3, 4.3 or the 1, 3, 5.4 boxes would be good.
BrettM said:If you do any snow, mud or sand wheeling I think the 1, 2.3, 4.3 box would be best so you can use that 2.3 for sand/snow/mud and mild trails and the 4.3 for big rocks. If you do only medium to hard rock trails I would go with the 1, 3, 5.4 case so that you can use the 3:1 most of the time and the 5.4 for the very technical climbs.
finesse, yes, but wheelspeed may be lacking and it may be difficult to stop in 1st. of course shifting to a higher transmission gear will solve both those problems.Capt. For me, it will allow for a bit more finesse since I've had a tendency to bump the Jeep around too much with the current gearing.

your setup with a manual transmission has no real relavance to this discussion, an auto behaves very differentlyBRIANHO13 said:I run 5.13's with a 4:1 case and ax-15 = 79:1. This is too low for most of the stuff around here so I am doing a doubler so I will have the option of 54:1 or 141:1.
