How do other conservatives feel about this election

Wallymander said:
He is NOT a joke, he is a very scary reality that we must realize may very well be dictating from the oval office and presidential basketall court very soon.

Dont take him lightly. The thing about people who want to take away freedoms and socialize things usually run the same type of campaign, and this one has been run down to the letter of the rules for communists. Get ready to get silenced.
Hes a mouth-piece and a figure head. The guy is not a thinker, hes a motivational speaker whos been tought to hate a free society because it "harmful" to the rest of the world. And he believes it. Just dont fall for him and DONT take him lightly.
The candidates have been chosen, nothing we can do about it. Just really have to vote to keep Obama out of office. Period. And thats unfortunate.

A lot of truth there. This guy is for real, and he's impressing a lot of people. I agree that he's mostly a motivational speaker, other than talking and representing himself well he hasn't done much. Like Clinton, he's never done anything on his own, just come up through the political ranks as understudy and candidate. But, he does look like he can lead, and we could really use a leader right now, someone to get peoples hopes up and help them to feel better about government and where our country is going. Regardless of what we think, or see through, many people see that and are very favorable about him.

We better make sure we get all our friends out to the polls.

Not true, he has posted many of his positions and opinions on his web site. He has spelled out his position on many issues there and in his speeches.

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

"Our country's greatest military asset is the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States. When we do send our men and women into harm's way, we must also clearly define the mission, prescribe concrete political and military objectives, seek out advice of our military commanders, evaluate the intelligence, plan accordingly, and ensure that our troops have the resources, support, and equipment they need to protect themselves and fulfill their mission." -Barack Obama, Chicago Foreign Affairs Council, April 23, 2007"

"As a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama is committed to helping the heroes who defend our nation today and the veterans who fought in years past. A grandson of a World War II US Army veteran who went to college on the G.I. Bill, Senator Obama has reached out to Republicans and Democrats in order to honor our commitment to America's veterans."

"He will increase investments in infrastructure, energy independence, education, and research and development; modernize and simplify our tax code so it provides greater opportunity and relief to more Americans; and implement trade policies that benefit American workers and increase the export of American goods."

The problem that most don't see is that the media will print nothing negative about Obama.
We hear about McCains divorce, he isn't sure about how many homes he owns, how he supports some of Bush's policies.
The moment anyone prints something about Obama, being schooled in an Islamic school, the fact that his mother said she was an atheist, but Obama says he was raised with strong Christian beliefs.
His father was raised Muslim but then became an atheist as well.
Or how early on he was critisized by Rev Jackson for not addressing the problems of inner-city African-Americans, but how can he do that when he has never known or understood that life.
I'm voting for McCain, but I would still like to know more about Obama besides the "change" he is going to bring about in Washington.

If the news media is not printing bad stuff about Oboma, where did you get all that bad stuff you just posted about Oboma (most of which is by the way, BS, lies...)? The news media has frequently repeated and discussed McCain's attacks on Obama's fitness and readness (experience) to be Comander in Chief with resepct to foriegn affairs. Then McCain runs off and picks a real novice as his running mate!

Obama was raised by his single white mother, and white grand parents. His Grandfather was a US Army soldier in General Patton's army in WWII. His black muslim father was never around, he was raised by poor white parents and white grand parents, not in Africa but in Hawaii, not raised by privaledge rich people as some BS floating around the internet is trying to claim. He put himself through Harvard law school with federal student loans that he has repaid. He turned down well paying Wall street and New York law firm job offers to move to Chicago after law school to help poor people lift themselves up from poverty by working church sponsored schools to help teach literacy and job skills to those who had been failed by the public school systems.

" Barack Obama was raised by a single mother and his grandparents. They didn't have much money, but they taught him values from the Kansas heartland where they grew up. He took out loans to put himself through school. After college, he worked for Christian churches in Chicago, helping communities devastated when steel plants closed.Obama turned down lucrative job offers after law school to return to Chicago, leading a successful voter registration drive. He joined a small law firm, taught constitutional law and, guided by his Christian faith, stayed active in his community. Obama and his wife Michelle are proud parents of two daughters, Sasha and Malia."

"Barack's mother, Ann Dunham, grew up in small-town Kansas. Her father worked on oil rigs during the Depression, and then signed up for World War II after Pearl Harbor, where he marched across Europe in Patton's army. Her mother went to work on a bomber assembly line, and after the war, they studied on the G.I. Bill, bought a house through the Federal Housing Program, and moved west to Hawaii.
It was there, at the University of Hawaii, where Barack's parents met. His mother was a student there, and his father had won a scholarship that allowed him to leave Kenya and pursue his dreams in America.
Barack's father eventually returned to Kenya, and Barack grew up with his mother in Hawaii, and for a few years in Indonesia. Later, he moved to New York, where he graduated from Columbia University in 1983."

"Remembering the values of empathy and service that his mother taught him, Barack put law school and corporate life on hold after college and moved to Chicago in 1985, where he became a community organizer with a church-based group seeking to improve living conditions in poor neighborhoods plagued with crime and high unemployment.
The group had some success, but Barack had come to realize that in order to truly improve the lives of people in that community and other communities, it would take not just a change at the local level, but a change in our laws and in our politics.
He went on to earn his law degree from Harvard in 1991, where he became the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. Soon after, he returned to Chicago to practice as a civil rights lawyer and teach constitutional law. Finally, his advocacy work led him to run for the Illinois State Senate, where he served for eight years. In 2004, he became the third African American since Reconstruction to be elected to the U.S. Senate."

"It has been the rich and varied experiences of Barack Obama's life - growing up in different places with people who had differing ideas - that have animated his political journey. Amid the partisanship and bickering of today's public debate, he still believes in the ability to unite people around a politics of purpose - a politics that puts solving the challenges of everyday Americans ahead of partisan calculation and political gain.
In the Illinois State Senate, this meant working with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.
In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator. His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.
As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. Recognizing the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, he traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. And knowing the threat we face to our economy and our security from America's addiction to oil, he's working to bring auto companies, unions, farmers, businesses and politicians of both parties together to promote the greater use of alternative fuels and higher fuel standards in our cars.
Whether it's the poverty exposed by Katrina, the genocide in Darfur, or the role of faith in our politics, Barack Obama continues to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century. But above all his accomplishments and experiences, he is most proud and grateful for his family. His wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, live on Chicago's South Side."

Speak for yourself. Listening to his nomination acceptance speech, I was personally inspired more than I have ever been inspired by any politician in my entire 54 years, and that includes Ronald Reagan when he first ran for the same office. Obama actually said and I quote "the Republicans have never gotten it that this election is not about me (me being Obama) but it is about you (meaning US) taking back your goverment from special interest" pork barrel groups. So he actual said, repeatedly in many speeches what you claim to be the mark of a leader.

This means nothing. I could come up with the same list. It's nothing more than a standard checklist for making sure you do things right. The first line there is straight from corporate feel good lectures. When I worked at Best Buy, we were always told how we are the most valuable asset to Best Buy's success.
What is his commitment? What has he done and what will he do? I can say that I am committed to helping the homeless in third world countries, but if I hadn't gone to Mexico and helped build houses with my church, it'd be empty words.
"He will increase investments in infrastructure, energy independence, education, and research and development; modernize and simplify our tax code so it provides greater opportunity and relief to more Americans; and implement trade policies that benefit American workers and increase the export of American goods."
How? Where will the money come from? What changes will he make to the tax code? How are we going to increase American exports without either paying our people less, weakening the dollar (so everything costs less to the rest of the world), building a better product, or forcing everyone to buy our stuff?

Here is a 33 page plan right on his web site.

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForChange.pdf

Building a better product worked in the past and can work again. If we increase R & D tax breaks and investments in green technologies and green power source development, and develop the best technologies first we create good paying jobs in the R & D efforts, then we market those technologies worldwide, creating high paying manufacturing and R & D jobs here. At the same time we solve the export of dollars problem to the middle east for oil, and the cause of many wars, namely oil.

Reagan did the same thing in the 1980's with legal changes that allowed a joint R & D effort that combined the best private public and academic reasearch efforts under one roof in Austin Texas that led to US domination of the computer revolution that brought us out of the 80's depression and into the internet computer economy of the 90's. It was to a great extent responsible for the prosperity of the 90's.

China and India are desperate for new green energy sources and they have US dollars to spend.:D

I might add that Germany, Spain, Iceland and Switzerland are all almost totally free of oil imports now because they invested in green energy solutions while Bush and the Republicans invested in a dry well in Iraq! Iceland is using hydrogen, Germany is using solar, and Spain has the best wind turbine industry around, so good that we are buy theirs and instaling them here, and Switzerland is using biomass, garbage generated methane gas to run their transportation and industrial infrastucture.

Straight from his 33 page plan, online at his web site:
"Invest in a Clean Energy Future
Invest $150 Billion over 10 Years in Clean Energy: Obama will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance
the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids,
promote development of commercial-scale renewable energy, invest in low-emissions coal plants, and
begin the transition to a new digital electricity grid. A principal focus of this fund will be to ensure that
technologies that are developed in the U.S. are rapidly commercialized in the U.S. and deployed around the
globe.
Double Energy Research and Development Funding: Obama will double science and research funding for
clean energy projects including those that make use of our biomass, solar and wind resources.
Invest in a Skilled Clean Technologies Workforce
Obama will use proceeds from the cap-and-trade auction program to invest in job training and transition
programs to help workers and industries adapt to clean technology development and production. Obama
will also create an energy-focused Green Jobs Corps to connect disconnected and disadvantaged youth with
job skills for a high-growth industry.
Convert our Manufacturing Centers into Clean Technology Leaders
Obama will establish a federal investment program to help manufacturing centers modernize and Americans
learn the new skills they need to produce green products.
Clean Technologies Deployment Venture Capital Fund
Obama will create a Clean Technologies Venture Capital Fund to fill a critical gap in U.S. technology
development. Obama will invest $10 billion per year into this fund for five years. The fund will partner
with existing investment funds and our National Laboratories to ensure that promising technologies move
beyond the lab and are commercialized in the U.S.
Require 25 Percent of Renewable Electricity by 2025
Obama will establish a 25 percent federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to require that 25 percent
of electricity consumed in the U.S. is derived from clean, sustainable energy sources, like solar, wind and
geothermal by 2025.
Develop and Deploy Clean Coal Technology
Obama will significantly increase the resources devoted to the commercialization and deployment of low carbon
coal technologies. Obama will consider whatever policy tools are necessary, including standards that
ban new traditional coal facilities, to ensure that we move quickly to commercialize and deploy low carbon
coal technology."

Note that spending money on "INVESTMENTS" like those listed above, is not a black hole that money disapears into, it is an investment in the jobs of the future, an investment to eliminate our addiction and need for foriegn oil, and investment that keeps America a leader and not a follower in new technology. Washington can print the money for this, hell we spent (waisted) 10 times that on the war in Iraq already, while reducing taxes according to the republicans!

With out past investments in new technology we would not be the only remaining super power. We need to renew those investments in green power now.

By the way, if I know Washington, much of that money will be loan guarantees paid back with power utility user fees, so its not like it is going to cost much in the way of income taxes to repay the investment dollars. In fact higher paying US jobs, increased productivity, all result in more personal income, higher GDP, which is how Washington grows its tax base and actually collects more taxes, without raising personal income tax rates.

And the only problem with that whole scenario is we'll have it till the CEO's and other executives move it over to China so they can do it cheaper.
Look at Intel, they moved their R&D to China as well as manufacturing.
If we develop it here we need to keep it here, if ANY government money is used to develop it it STAYS HERE COME HELL OR HIGH WATER.
These other countries are not stupid, during the shortage in the 70's oil reached I think $80 a barrel, as soon as the federal government formed the 'Alternative Energy Corporation' and funded it OPEC dropped oil back to $18.
If we were to start say a new technology of some sort they would start producing it cheaper and keep dropping their prices to make it impossible to produce here. When we develop a technology we need to protect it, keep the process's secret and hang the first person that lets out how it's done, let THEM figure out how to reverse engineer it, quit giving it away.
I think that as soon as an American Corporation has more the 49% of their production or suppliers of parts OUTSIDE the US we need treat them as a foreign entity, period and that entity needs to pay a price for bringing cheap crap in. As soon as a foreign entity owns more than 49% of a corporation they also need to be treated as a foreign entity.
As far as the Clinton years, oh he was a great guy, he basically removed the restrictions on technology knowledge being exported and that included missile guidance systems, ever wondered how the north Koreans all of a sudden got the ability to launch longer range rockets.
Lets also face it, the reason Corporations are hiring foreign green card PHD's and master are not because they are better educated it's because they are CHEAPER.

Just to elaborate on energy some, look at history. Many of the US power plants were changed from oil to coal in the early 70's (first oil embargo), then from coal to natural gas (and Oil) because of acid rain, then when the natural gas mostly ran out, back to coal (with scrubbers) and oil.
All the while nuclear energy was shrinking due to the dangers.
Hydro electric production was mostly static or shrinking due to environmental concerns.
Tidal electricity production was mostly a non starter due to environmental concerns.
My point being, much of the problem is a lack of generational (decades long) planing that will last longer than one administration.
By the time you get both parties to agree, satisfy the environmentlaists, get industry on board and devise some sort of coherent plan it's election time and /or funding Is shifted to this years project.
Whatever plan they decide on will likely not be implemented or if partially implemented will likely have pitfalls that will require changes.
It always sounds good in the beginning, the solutions seem simple and logical, experience tells me they are not.
The only path to success I can see is generational planning and that's unlikely to happen. And if it does, it will be a messy process with a lot of false starts and unforeseen problems.

And after he graduated Havard, he went to work at the Law Firm of Sidley Authin, which is one of the oldest firms in the world and 6th largest corporate law firm. This is where he met his wife.

That was some nice stuff you found on his website, lets find some stuff from outside sources though, you can't believe anything politicians say.

No, it's because he came out as the top contender.
That's a no shitter, but you missed the point.

If so many GOPrs don't like him, why would he win? I believe it's because only the fanatical right are making noise. Just like with the DEMs only the extreme left draws attention.

Speak for yourself. Listening to his nomination acceptance speech, I was personally inspired more than I have ever been inspired by any politician in my entire 54 years......

His speech showed me that he is willing to say whatever to get elected, without the ability to follow thru on his promises. Kind of reminds me of the info-mercials that you see on TV that promise high rewards for little investment or effort.......there's always a catch (or subsidies)
I like hearing all this talk on alternative "clean" energy, but it won't happen overnight and surely won't happen in 10 years, which is what Obama has committed...........

A profit margin associated with alternative energy sources is required for the private sector to be incented to pursue development. Supply and Demand=Capitolism.
Fossil fuels are still our most economical source of energy, based on costs of process to deliver to the consumer......but what if the cost of fossil fuels were to double or triple? By comparison, many alternative fuel sources have now become less expensive, right?
So, the only way to wean us off of fossil fuel, is for it to become so expensive that we do something else.........who has the ability to effect energy costs, who profits from it and what does it cost the consumer/taxpayer?

Cap and Trade- On simplest terms, it provides our government with a new revenue stream (est. 50 Billion to 300 Billion annually) by trading carbon offset credits, with no proof that our carbon output has any effect on the heating and cooling of our climate. It will increase the costs of everything manufactured, as well as all energy costs, for what?

The EU has been doing this since 1997 and it has failed to reduce CO output, in fact, the 1997-2004 numbers show a 6% increase......... but the cost of the program to the consumer is HUGE! There is also proof that this "Carbon Tax" on businesses will drive their manufacturing operations to countries who do not participate in the program.

How is Obama or McCain going to solve this problem, if they think that Cap and Trade will help with our energy costs and generate revenue to advance alternate fuel sources? All I see is a way to the government to make more money from it's citizens and have more control over their lives, i.e. loss of Freedom = SOCIALISM.

You say that our personal income taxes won't be raised. Every government program has as cost and I don't care how you package it, We the People pay for it. Obama's speech indicates there will be many more programs created. Name one government-run program that is profitable and capable of self-sustaining without public taxes, fees or funds funneled into it?

Vote for what you think is right for the country. Thats how i see it. I would rather have someone in office who has lots of experience. I don't care if they are liberal or conservative, or democratic or republican, whatever. i just want someone who i agree with on most things :D
