how do i test my alt?

Ok, so I have a 1987 Cherokee Chief, 4.0L. I just put a new alt in and its still not charging. I have run into this problem before on other jeeps i have owned. But i dont know whats wrong. can some one help?

Remove the negative battery lead with the engine OFF.

Check for continuity between the alternator output post and the starter motor relay screwpost. If bad - you've blown a fusible link. If good, check again between the alternator output post and the battery + post. If bad - replace your battery cable. If good - your regulator isn't sensing voltage properly, or your replacement was defective.
