1988 4.0 only heats up when climbing a grade. It has been converted to an open system. 3 row radiator about 2 years old. fan clutch seems to be locking up when hot. I have the electric fan on a switch to run it when I need. At idle it wont heat up with the electric fan on. city or highway driving stays at 210. it only goes to the red when climbing hills. any ideas?

When your climbing hills, the motor has more of a load on it then just at idle or at freeway speeds. Maybe try some hood vents, or dual electric fans. Also, if your AC doesn't work and dont plan on using it, remove the condensor, to gain better flow. A coolant system service may help too.
