On the way home on Sunday a wildfire broke out from a campsite fire. I passed by the fire right after it started. I got one picture of the smoke. Check the web for the whole story. Glad we got out when we did. Glad we didn't start it.

we saw this coming home sunday. nuts.

where was this at? In/around the parks on the one lane area or further out than that? There were a ton of people camping around the lakes this weekend.

This was on highway 4 about 10 miles east of Arnold. Huge plumes of smoke. The worst part was the idiots on Hwy4 that were pulling over and then walking across the road on blind corners. I had to lock up the brakes a few times which is not easy in a loaded Jeep hauling-ass at 60MPH down a hill.

damn, must have happened sunday morning, nothing was happening when I went through, though there were several fire trucks and ambulances at one point in the road and I didnt really see anything, maybe a school bus full of nuns went off the road and caught the forest on fire :wow:

We just passed by the fire on our way home about an hour ago. You could see some flames from the highway. Two nights ago the fire jumped over highway 4, but I believe the got it contained.

Highway 4 is still partially closed. The highway patrol is escorting people through the fire area. You can feel the heat as you drive by. It's crazy.

Here was a huge rain storm at lake alpine last night but no rain made it south of bear valley.

Hopefully they get it under control quick. It sucks seeing this area get destroyed!

Also if you are trying to get back up the hill, you need an address to get through.

Going up the hill it is blocked after Camp Connell/before cottage springs (so yes way after Arnold). On the way down 4 it is blocked at the cabbage patch maintenance station which is a few miles after bear valley.

As of about an hour ago, over 1000 acres have burned and the fire is only 15% contained. Man, this sucks.

There is also a smaller fire behind Spicer reservoir a ways. It is not as large of a fire.

Just use this as a reminder to make sure your fires are DEAD OUT. A water bottle of water or a piss from a grown man is not nearly enough to put a fire out. Once you think the fire is out, kick over the big logs and douse the underside... it will likely still be red hot.

To my knowledge this Ramsey fire was started by a irresponsible camper who left his fire unattended. I hope he/she learned her lesson and that everyone else can learn from their mistake.

Heres a picture of the Ramsey fire from the top of the Mt. Reeba Ridge (near the BV Ski Resort). This was at roughly 250 acres burned, 20% contained.

lets see here "backpackes roughly carry 3-4 bottles of water, maybe a little more for cooking". So when they have a fire how do they put it out?

4wheelers carry buckets, and 3-4 GALLONS of water (if not more).

sorry, just thinking out loud...

Here is the latest ----The fire is 1,150 acres and 30 percent contained.
As reported previously, it started as an escaped campfire. Only you can prevent forest fires.
