finaly got an XJ 99 limited with some stuff

no, i had been planning on the VW for a while but it's just more work than i want to do right now. i'm up in the air on an SL1 or 4.7 stroker now.

well almost killed myself getting to this point, it's heavy.

the pass side leave is some kind of bastard pack, is there an easy trick to lining up the leaf nubs?

off the rear stands at last, the axle does need to be nudged over to the driver side about 3/4in though but i'm waiting till i have a 2nd person to help move this thing around.

You really really need a leaf center bolt to keep that together - if you don't have one, the leaves will slide out and/or the axle will slide forward on them under acceleration. Pull it back apart, put one in and properly tighten it (usually involves putting the bolt through the leaves, then using big C clamps to tighten the leaves together while the bolt aligns them, then putting the nut on) and then reinstall the axle, should go easier.

well, you are missing the crucial leaf spring centering pin.

take the axle out, line the leaves up, c-clamp them together, install pin.

It has the pin. Stock pack has the pin on the bottom, top "Add-a" leaf has a hole in it and the bottom one has the alignment pin. I'm guessing this leaf pack is is just some hobbled together thing?

The front leaf mounts on this think are rotted most of the way out anyway, it needs a 4 link but that a ways off. I just want this mobile now. I'll redo the other side with the c-clamp method.
Thanks.

then assemble the leaf pack with the pin before trying to install the rearend. or am I missing something here?

and what's a leaf nub?

OK. now I have no idea what the heck is going on. when that pin is tightened there should be NO gap between any of the leaf springs. and you assemble the lack before you install it.

I think that side is a full pack (maybe a bastard pack) with a centering pin, then 2 extra leaves thrown under it loose. Bought it that way...

Yes, full pack with 2 random leafs thrown under it to make it into a 4.5in "lift" spring so to speak.

I know what I have to do now, thanks. I'll update if I have time tomorrow.

AHHHHHHHH I HATE BUILDING THIS THING!!!

every time i buy something and commit to it a better thing comes up, stripped down a WJ front axle for the knuckes and what not i got for all of $60 caliper to caliper...... 4:11 LSD inside. :flamemad: exactly what i was trying to find for my 30 last month but i already have mine ready to do with an open carrier.

mehhh too late now, i'll hang onto it though. have everything minus the steering for my 30 now at least. picking up some brand new alloy USA shafts tomorrow evening so maybe that front will hold up a bit longer hahah.

If it is a WJ axle that is a low pinion super 30 so the gears won't fit your high pinion regular 30 anyways.

Not sure if the super 30 vs regular 30 have different carriers, check before trying to change it out.

no i just wanted the LSD carrier for my HP D30 that is going into my XJ now. it's a stock open carrier with 4:56s in it, i would have really liked the LSD that i essentially got for free since i only paid $60 for the complete front WJ axle, knuckles, discs, calipers, steering, and the LSD.

the bumper is bent up because the guy who installed it didn't put in all the bolts, we had to take one out of each side to clear part of the 4x8 box tube that is in the "pocket" so to speak. shook it to make sure it was on there good and it dropped, i looked and it only had 1 of 4 bolts in each side. it's tac welded now and when the front goes back in the bumper will come off and be redone.

well i decided i'm going to put a LSx in this, 5.3 iron block rebuilt to around 350+ HP.
rebuilt 4.0 seems weak, stroker 4.0 is too much money for what 160hp and 10MPG?

LSx with 350hp should put about 275 to the wheels and get me 18mpg if i go easy and at least 23mpg on the highway doing an easy 70.

i'm horrible at making decisions.
