Fastest XJ

Is it really bad on the vehicle to routinely wind it out like that? I also take it to redline taking off from stoplights daily; how bad is that on the drivetrain? I love doing it, but obviously it's not good for it, so I've tried to back off, but rather unsuccessfully. I've also grown fond of building it up against the break and leaving some nice black lines behind me when I take off. Is my Jeep going to live to see another 100,000 miles if I keep driving like this?

Thanks!

Sounds like you answered your own question there.

I have only a little over 70k on my Jeep. It was a salvage, but the lines were straight and it drove well when I bought it. Since beating the crap out of it offroad a few times - and onroad all the time, similar to what you mentioned - I strongly suspect the unibody has reverted to a slightly warped state (if it was ever warped after the accident it was in, which I find is almost impossible to avoid - could have been a lucky angle though, but I bought the thing from a dealer who is a friend of a friend).

I also do a lot of tranny braking, and my tranny, crossmember, and the drivetrain in general are trashed because of it. My rear springs are so trashed, if I accelerate too quickly, or around a corner, I can hear & feel what I believe is the effects of spring wrap.

Basically, be careful. Jeeps are tough as nails, but as with anything, if you abuse it enough, you WILL find a breaking point. Maybe not everything all at once, but piece by piece - although, this will tell you which order you have to upgrade things in as well :)

My motor is still pretty strong, but I think it may have lost a little - could be due to increased parasitic losses due to the condition of the drivetrain. I run Mobil-1 all the time - 1st thing I did with the truck was change the oil - and more recently, have begun using a synthetic additive as well.

krakhedd - Thank you for addressing my questions. I really appreciate. I also thank you for overlooking my stupid typos ('break' instead of brake).

I'm afraid you're right that a Jeep, though it is very tough, will not stand up to the kind of abuse I'm dishing out on it daily. Actually today when I went to get some lunch, I drove it real easy. Took me forever to get up to speed. I actually kinda enjoyed it. I'm trying to get good gas mileage out of this tank, too, just to see what it can do. I wonder if I can best 20mpg...

I've talked to Dad several times about switching over to synthetic oil, but he insists that it's not that good of a thing to switch from natural oil to synthetic oil with smaller particles in an engine with so much wear and tear on it.

x2
warped unibody, been there, done that, got the wavy roof to prove it.

X10!
this is my philosophy with the jeep. beat it till something breaks, upgrade, wash rinse repeat.

I've done 110 in my stock XJ, i've never pushed it like that before or after that but i think it had another 20-25 left in it if that speed limiter dosn't kick in, even in a stock XJ, its was kind of terrifing and amazing all the same. PS. A 200 MPH XJ would be unreal!!! BUILD IT !!!

i did a stopwatch trial between mile markers and got 36 seconds, which is only like 100 mph. maybe it was the 4000ft elevation? jeep full of camping gear?

I hit 80-85 yesterday in 2nd....oh wait that was on the bike. The '93 2wd XJ I had would top out around 85-90. And for those who say the fast guys gotta be young and dumb....I'm 44. Must mean I'm older and dumb. *grin* Cause my bike is over 100 a lot.

Wow this is old

I had mine way faster than I ever planned. I was driving one saturday and some kid in a lowered honda past me on the highway. So being the asshole that I am I matted the gas. I stuck him about 80 and then noticed it quit pulling. It was banging the rev limiter in 3rd(95ish or so mph) so I backed off the gas a little bit, let it shift ovedrive then finished the speedo and another 1000 RPM. Didn't ever pass the honda but I am sure he was like WTF when he realized a lifted jeep was on his ass at 115ish.

I let off because I realized I was discoed and was fully loaded from the wheeling weekend before lol. I was impressed it would pull OD with 6" of lift and 33s.....and over 4000lbs :D. It actually drove pretty good but with trail raped tires it was stupid :(

Will they not shift OD wide open? The shifter was in OD but I had to let off for it to grab OD.

On Tuesday, I was on the Interstate and had about a 1 mile stretch in front of me with no cars. I floored it in 4th gear, and got it up to 4200 rpm's. According to a spped calculator, that was just over 111 mph. It was still accelerating when I had to let off.

TEASER....:variety: :jester:

So it seems the max speed range from 100 to 200 MPH....

The QUESTION is how fast can you move from point A to point B in second... especially in traffic....

Mine :

I wondered about those lights in your earlier pictures too Andhi, are you a police officer over there as well as a business owner? :D

I have to ask, because if I rigged up my own Jeep like that here, I'd be offering explainations to the cops while they drove me to jail for impersonating a police officer...

:D

YUP,
Once in a while, my car is being used in a VVIP escort. We do have some "CATEGORY" of VVIP escort, thats why we have put the CODE3 lighting and siren...

BUT, still I would like the XJ to be different with normal escort XJ, thats why I have upgrade the engine and accessories...

Thanks for the concern...

Got the needle a good ways over the 110 mark. Not sure on RPMs forgot to look. But I guess I was doing about 120. Stock tires with 3" lift going down hill. Seemed like it had more but I ran out of room. Quite scary and fun all at the same time.

i've done 112 with a stock 90 xj, 31 tires and about 700 lbs of people (there were thee of us) and that was at about 4000 rpm. and the sad thing was i was getting passed left and right. there was a radar trailer that told how fast i was going. but my speedo said well over 85 peged out :)

The '88 XJ has seen 95, but I feel that was wrong since the speedo gear was pretty chewed up at the time. I also did 0-75 in 1sec when I had the rear driveshaft taken off and couldnt engage the front wheels.

The '98 ZJ(straight six) got up to 100MPH on the interstate when I really had to take a piss on my way back from new mexico, that was when it was newer, now its a little sluggish probally the puegot fault.

I hit exactly 100 mph on a downhill slope somewhere in the Yukon territory coming down the Alcan in exactly this trim....

Matter o' fact, this pic was taken about an hour before that. Well over 8,000lbs of rolling mass. For some reason, I was feeling a little bit too ballsy that day. I'm lucky to be alive.

I got my 98 XJ well over the 100 mark It was scary stuff the car felt like it was floating at that point.

4.0L 5-Speed 3.07 80MPH at 4750+/- 3rd gear, 4th Gear 95+ the RPM's are well above the 4 grandmark.

Trust me this Jeep is much faster then my previous truck- 88 2.8L 700-R4 3.20 (or so) rear gear, Downhill it truely was hard to get it pass 85 and that was dangerous on those 215 75 14's hahaha
