Compression Test

At TDC compression stroke for #1 cylinder, the hole in the rotating piece and the hole in the housing line up in the distributor-like mechanism that is referred to as the cam position sensor on the distributorless system. If you bring the crank pulley around to the "timing mark", you will either have the holes lined up or they will be 180 degrees off and you need to crank it around one more time to line it up. The rest is simple. One third of a turn brings the next cylinder in the firing order into position which you feel the top of with a dowel or piece of coat hanger (etc.).
