Is it possible to swap the shafts and spiders from a 96 27 spline 8.25 rear for the spiders and shafts from a 97 29 spline rear?

You will need a 29 spline carrier. You cannot just swap out side gears.

You might want to see what you actually have,96 was a split year with parts and may very well be a 29 spline axle.
