You could pull or push start automatic transmission vehicles that had transmissions equipped with a rear pump. Locking up a torque converter won't result in pressure from the front pump, so there will be no hydraulic pressure in transmission = no pull or push start.
"isn't very good for it" is right... even if this was possible you wouldn't want to do it, the torque converter lockup is not designed to handle full engine torque nevermind starting torque. I'd bring one of those jump pack batteries along instead.
