Auto Door Lock- Blowing dash fuses

My son's 99 Cherokee Auto door latch evidently quit working...now the dash fuse has blown out and the interior light stays on???? I found a blown fuse in the fusebox under the hood.There were no blown fuses in the interior box.I'm thinking the door switch or powerdoor lock is grounding out and causing this.Jeep runs fine but all the guages are dead and the fuse blows as soon as the Jeep is started.I'm gonna look for busted wires by the door latch too as I was told this is common...would a faulty power latch blow the fuse?
