Just found out that the Golf TDI "GTD" will be available in the US 2015/2016!

Not only does it have more power than the current TDI's available here in the US, the mileage is also increased!

This may be the time I actually buy a BRAND NEW vehicle!

Aside from my XJ and MJ, I also own a 1973 (non-super) Beetle. Was given to me from my dad, after my step sis moved to TX.

Is 40 mpg at diesel prices worth the extra up front cost over a 35 mpg gas version at gas prices?

Actually, most TDI's especially Mk4 1.9TDI get better than the rated 40-42 mpg.
The GTD is rated at mid-50s.
Depending on how equipped, TDI is not much more $$ than a base gas VW.

I have been keeping my eye out for the GTD or GLD or a new version of the TDI Cup. I currently have a 06 GLI, that has a few things done to it.

That article you posted said 40 mpg and more expensive than a GTI. I don't know anything about them, that's why I asked.
The first article comments about "above 40mpg" . The second actually has a driven/approx mileage of mid-50s. However, you can currently buy the TDI , not GTD, and it is less expensive than the GLI/GTI and R. Take into consideration that the GTI/R are turbo charged gassers, and require premium fuel.
if I were to buy a brand new Golf TDI, right meow, optioned how I want it, is around 25k. GTI/R are 30k+

Looks nice.
