19 MPG. I dont believe it

double post!

Wow, mine must be in bad shape.

2000 XJ with only 70k miles, AW4, by my calculations I got 13mpg the other day and that is poking around with mixed highway.

31x10.50s too....what gives? I just bought this thing, so I haven't done my round of maintenance such as plugs and what not yet. Anything else I should check, fuel filter maybe?

If it had 4.10 gears it would get better mileage. I sort of have a heavy right foot, so mine isn't that good either. i'd say mixed average on mine is 15-16mpg on 235/75/15's.

i get 16 mpg city with 31's and 3.55 the best i have gotten was 22 mpg on the highway
95 xj 127k auto

19 mpg is good, but a approximate trip of 62 miles with an approximate fill up of 3.2 gallons is not a good test. It doesn't fill up exactly the same every time. You at least need to get a 3/4 tank test to be closer. A one half gallon error for 3.2 gallons is 15%. That could make it 16 mpg. A one half gallon error with a 15 gallon fill would only give a 3% error. And on top of it you don't really know the miles travelled exactly.

I'm running 4.56's, 33" swampers 2.5" lift and a clean roof (bunch or armor).
Just did a 440mile road trip through mountainous country…
On my way there I was running 22psi in the swampers and got 14.25mpg Yikees!
On my way back, I aired up to 40psi in the swampers and got 17.75mpg.

This was running 2800-3000rpm which is 70-75mph approx.

Running 2500rpm (65mph)on the same route with 40psi in the swampers I get 18.8-19.2...

Oh, I believe it :)

I consistantly got 18 to 19 mpg hwy/15-16 mpg city with the 98 4dr with 5" of lift, 31X10.50, and stock drivetrain (AW4, 3.55). We are much more aerodynamic than a wrangler. My wrangler with a 2.5L, stock drivetrain (5spd, 4.10), and 33X12.50X15 gets a whopping 15 mpg at interstate speeds and 18 mpg at 55. My stock UpCountry gets 24-25 hwy and around 17 city. Let's see a stock Wrangler do that ;)

The type of fuel (mix/mon-mix), doesn't seem to be as much of an issue as how you drive. Also, tire inflation is huge! Pump them suckers back up when you're not Off-Roading. A minimum of 32 psi is the rule of thumb I use on dry pavement. Sometimes if I really like hypermilling I'll go up to 36 psi ;)

after your tires/lift did you correct your speedo? or is this according to gps?

i might try and air up my 235/75 mts to 40 psi in hopes of better mileage =/

speedo is corrected, but now reads high due to tire wear (tires are at ~32" dia).
i make this 440 mile trip weekly (for the last year, and for the year to come) in my stock as a rock WJ, and before that was using a stock as a rock Honda Pilot (company vehicle) and have made the same trip in a Lincon MKZ, and a Marquis (rentals)... they all say ~440 miles.

This trip was the first time I'd taken the XJ in probably 6 months... but I will be taking it more often... just for fun :)... well... my wife is not a fan of trading her WJ for my XJ either... go figure.
