Mark your calendars!

Come one, come all. It's time for the SoCalXJ Fiesta Island Picnic BBQ Potluck Swapmeet Show'n'shine Hootenanny Cavalcade!

This is the 14th year in a row we drive our XJs to the beach during the summer time for some good food, and water play (Jet ski's, boats, kayaks, sandcastles, fire pits, etc). Bring some food for yourself, and some to share (if you like). We can use some tables if you have them.

Feel free to drive your daily drivers, RVs, tow rigs, TJs, whatever, if that's all you have, driving/owning an XJ is not required, it's just encouraged. No, this is not an official NAXJA SoCal Chapter event, or SoCalXJ FB group event. This event has been going on longer then the NAXJA SoCal Chapter or Facebook has existed. This is an official unofficial SoCalXJ Yahoo group event. You don't have to be a member of SoCalXJ or of NAXJA to attend.

TIME:
Morning until whenever, casual event, just show up any time! BE AWARE. The island closes at 10.pm, there is a gate. Typically, most people arrive mid-day, but people will generally be there sunrise to just before sunset. Official beach hours are 6am-10pm. Island access does close, with NO CAMPING.

DIRECTIONS/MAP, click on the blue pin, and get directions to:

We'll be on the flat stretch along the west side of the Island, once on Fiesta Island, take the "shortcut across the island" left at the fork in the road, and when you can see the bay again, you should be seeing an assortment of XJs and such ahead of you on the sand.

From I-5, take the Sea World Drive exit and head southwest, then make a right onto East Mission Bay Drive, then left to Fiesta Island. There is parking throughout the island.

OFFICIAL FIESTA ISLAND RULES/INFO:

NO alcohol OR glass containers.

Sorry, San Diego County Municipal Code rules, NOT our Rules. Again, no glass containers, no camping, closes at 10.

I looked on Google Earth and didn't see you.

:dunno:

You're supposed to use Google Street View. It's too hard to see us from the Satelite on Google Earth. See, there's the first XJ who showed up …

Food / Beverages:Food is permitted but no glass containers. Alcohol is not permitted
I have not heard anything about a new rule regarding picnics. I am going to guess that this is the legal speak for what currently counts as a picnic with a caterer and a bunch of tables.

That is a new low if the city is saying Mom and Dad and the kids can't go eat lunch on a Sunday afternoon on Fiesta Island.

This event falls somewhere between those two scenarios.

I'm sure they are referring to organized group picnics. It's just funny the stuff they come up with.

When did they stop the porta toilets? I'm sure that will lead to a explosion in ground flowers (barely covered toilet paper) and that's real bright not to provide porta potties when you know the result. No barefoot in the sand.

Restrooms: There are no restrooms available on the island. Permittee must provide appropriate number of portable toilets for venue.

Like the line that says:

"It is also the home of the annual Over-the-Line Tournament." (which hosts about 30,000 people a weekend) and right below that is says: "Capacity: 500". :looser:
