02 jeep liberty motor

so the motor in my mothers 2002 jeep liberty is about to go, I know the dreaded 3.7. Anyways as iv been searching for a replacement for her I ran across a 3.7 from a 06 liberty, last I checked this model was 02-07 so when I called the yard that had the motor and they told me a motor from an 06 wouldn't work and I needed one from an 02 I became quite curious as to why, the yard just said they wouldn't be compatible when I asked why. So I was wondering if any of you out there could fill me in as to why this may be true or not. What other if any vehicles could a motor be pulled from and put into the liberty? thanks for any input or feedback, I can get more information if needed as well.

Guy was probably just telling you what Hollander's said. I don't know if it will work or not and if not why not.

In theory it should be plug n pray.

Maybe need to swap sensors/some parts but the long block itself should be the same. They had it in quite a few Mopar vehicles.
