Sounds like a lean issue, yes. Try the o2's. I've seen them act up without throwing a code for quite some time... similar issue too. They could be nasty from previous issues and giving you fits if they're leaning out your fuel trim.

I think I have solved the issue. Installed a new cam sensor and set the sync and now it seems ro be ok. My lifters were stuck collapsed but I didn't see any damage to the cam or the bottom of the lifters. I beleive I cought that in time.
