    Torque converter toast?

It's been a LONG time since I've posted here but hopefully someone can answer this definitively. Just finished taking the XJ back down to 35s on D44s and 4.88 gears and am finding that it is a gutless wonder. First gear is OK but there is virtually no power in any other gear. I have a manual...

    5.3L Vortec V8 Conversion

Thanks John, but I was referring to the wiring that needs to be tied into on the XJ itself.

    5.3L Vortec V8 Conversion

Frank, would you be willing to go into more detail on what wiring needs to be done on the XJ itself? I want to see what is involved before I commit to the swap. I have limited time between wheeling holidays so I'm trying to figure out how much needs to be done and how much time I need to allot...

    Xj 4.6L Stroker Turbo

What are the specs on the turbo? Wheel sizes and compressor/turbine AR?

    Xj 4.6L Stroker Turbo

I've actually been planning to mount a turbo in the same place as you. With ceramic coated up/downpipes the heat effect should be minimal on the power steering and fuel lines. A heat shield on the turbine should easily protect the ECU.

Thanks for the input. A few people have mentioned City Market now, so that is probably a good plan.

Unfortunately, I won't have enough time on the way back.:( We will be stopping on the way back at Poison Spyder Customs and that's about it. Maybe the next time though.:)

    Unimog 406 axles

406s have straight cut portal gears, axle tubes that bolt into the center section, different gear ratios available, and more weight than 404s. Lot's of info on Pirate4x4 in the General and Mercedes forums.

    Mog 404's

404s that are narrowed 7" and have custom disc brakes. Dropping the drums and associated pieces was good for about 85lbs per diff weight reduction. The really big Mogs (U1300s) are probably around 900lbs.

    Mog 404's

The diffs are nowhere near 900lbs each. My front is around 600 and the rear is around 570. Since the exocage went on there is very little body flex.

    Going on a diet

Looks awesome! I'm so jealous of you warm climate guys that can build xjuggys and not have to worry about mud and snow.

    Portal axles on Cherokee?

I just caught this thread doing another search.:) That is my rig. those pics were before the exocage was done. That was from Jeep Jamboree in Alberta, 2005. The whole build thread is on Pirate4x4. www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=415385 BrettM - this is the rig that I put your...

I know this is a little premature, but I was wondering if any of you fine folks would be in the area at that time to do a trail run. My brother will be attending Grand Slam West at that time and wants us to join him. We plan on arriving on the 11th (Monday) and wheeling together Tuesday and...

    NOT a budget buggy build

Well, I'm hoping maybe some day I can plan a trip to hook up with some of you fine folks at one of the many events you guys hold. It will be a long haul from Edmonton, but I HAVE to try and plan something to check out some real rocks. Anyways, back to the tech...

    NOT a budget buggy build

Great job Richard. I don't post much around here, but being an XJ guy I do like to lurk and see what you guys are up to. I wish we had the type of terrain and weather you guys do so I could build something similar. I can't see the wife riding through the mud and water in an open buggy...

    What does your rig weigh?

That's too funny. Fortunately though, pound for pound, we are all full of the same b.s. :) BrettM - thanks for putting up the link. A little hang time:
