My temp gauge goes over 210 at the littlest escuse !

    Water pumps don't last

On my 96XJ, the oem water pump lasted 62K miles. 1st replacement lasted 29K miles and the 2nd replacement lasted 36K miles. That was a Bosch. So at 127K miles, I'll be on the 4th pump. I'm careful not to over tighten the serp belt. Where can I get a better pump? Thanks, Fred

Thought I fixed it, now no crank.

I have a (late) '96 with 120K miles, the 4.0 HO. It was starting up good but sometimes recently needed the throttle pedal floored on restarts. The other day when doing this, the battery started going weak and I thought I was dead but it did fire up. I googled that condition and found many...

    BJ'S won't install 235x75x15" tires on my 1996 Cherokee

Says they have a policy that only oem sized tires or oem plus less than 3% over will be installed. Says I need 225's. I tell him that 235x75's have been on the vehicle since 2000 when the stock Goodyear 225's wore out. Told him the 235 Michelin's have been on for 7 years. Still NG. I even...

Anyone else have problems with deliveries from ROCK AUTO?

Ordered 4 KYB shocks for my Jeep Cherokee. I received a e mail Saturday with tracking # from ROCK AUTO saying that I'd receive them by end of day today. Didn't happen. Fed Ex says they don't have the package. ROCK AUTO is blaiming Fed Ex and says I have to wait 6 days. They won't ship a...

    IAS Shock absorber bushing sizes?

Hi, the bushings in my Edelbrock IAS shocks in my '96 Cherokee need replacing. Anyone ever do this and have either the sizes or Energy Suspension part #'s. I can't afford vehicle downtime to pull the shocks off, measure them, order them and put them back on till the new bushings arrive so it...

Could the rattle in my '96 be from the fuel pump?

Hi, my Jeep has developed a VERY annoying rattle which seems to be coming from the fuel tank area when I place my ear on the floor of the back deck. The rattle happens when you go over a rough road or bumps. I did a thorough check underneath and all appears tight. First I thought it would be...

? part in Lower ball joint parts bad

Is this blue plug for my vehicle? I called Raybestos and the tech dept said "it goes in the axle and you need a special tool for it." I said maybe it's for another vehicle that takes the same part # and when I told him I had a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, he said I need it? When I took my stuff apart...

Battery drain and Multimeter not reading

I have a battery drain and have tried bridging the battery posts/cables with my meter and haven't gotten any readings. I tried the bridge with first the negative side and then the positive side - and gotten the same result. I used the 10A scale. I'm not any sort of electronic guru so maybe I...

The starter checked out OK, now what?

Here is my story. I went to start the Jeep on Monday morning. It cranked very slowly, which is very unusual but it did start. Now, what I should have done is use my 'ol '85 Blazer to go to work but took the jeep. At work I cleaned the battery terminals and tried to restart it in the afternoon...

Hard restart condition fixed, but did I? - LONG

Hey buds, Last week, I started the jeep & it fired right up, waiting for my wife to come out of the house. Shut it off cause it was running 5 minutes. She finally came out and I went to start it. Crank, crank, crank and no start. She says "Oh, that did it to me 2 or 3 times lately - it'll...

    "Loaded" caliper opinion(s)

I'm doing my 2nd front brake job at 70K miles - the first was done at 40K with AZ rotors and carbon friction pads. Do you think it's a good idea this time to do my calipers for piece of mind? If so, I think I'll get them Loaded with pads from Rock Auto. I'm also getting new rotors - this time...

Searched and couldn't find. It appears the '96 could take either the Standard # FD169 or the FD177. Anyone know the difference?

Need ID on this part under the hood

I have this whistling noise that eventially goes away that seems to be coming from this valve. First I thought it was a bearing like in the water pump or alternator but when I listened with a hose, it seems to come from this. It's just to the top right of the windshield washer resouvor. It has...

Knock noise from axle tube when braking - last attempt

I’ve posted this before and I’ve gotten answers like driveshaft u-joints (ain’t that), bushings (ain’t that) vent tube (ain’t that) etc. What I’ve found out is that others have the same problem so someone’s gotta know! Please! Vehicle has 40K miles. I put new (Raybestos) drums and shoes on...

"Clicking?" from axle shaft between rear end and brakes when braking

This condition only happens when braking and when you are almost completely stopped. Only does it on the passenger side. Did the brakes with new drums in December and all was OK till about a month ago. Used a rubber hose as a stethoscope and noise can be described as either "click, click...
